Swim
Comments: I thought my swim was good. My time was about what I predicted. I wish I would have had the sleeveless top. I got a bit hot during the swim and actually slowed down to let some new cooler water into my suit so I didn't overheat. I couldn't draft off of anyone because I couldn't seem to find anyone to draft off of. What would you do differently?: Learn to kick and start faster. Transition 1
Comments: I'm not upset with my time here. I think I can do it faster, but since the next person ahead of me was 25+ minutes faster it would not have mattered. What would you do differently?: Not put sunscreen on??? Bike
Comments: Well I need to work on this one. I thought I would do much better than I did on the bike. Overall it was an ok bike. I need to work on my bike endurance and hill climbing. I think this will get better with time. I was ready to get off the bike at the end... What would you do differently?: Train more and maybe get a different seat. Transition 2
Comments: Again not really upset about this time. I know it could be faster but it would not have made a difference in this one. What would you do differently?: Again with the sunscreen... and it didn't even work I still got burned. Run
Comments: I blew up on this one. My stomach was a mess starting at about mile 2. After thinking about it more I believe this was from the advil I took at mile 1. The course was flat and had no shade. I knew my run would not be the best but I my stomach problems definitely limited my running ability. I can't wait to do one of these again so i can crush my time. What would you do differently?: Train more for the run somehow without hurting my knee. Do not take advil without solid food in my stomach! Post race
Warm down: Stood in a sprinkler for a bit to cool down. Went down and ate some cookies, pb&j, and fruit. I drank a Mt. Dew for the first time in like 10 years :) What limited your ability to perform faster: Stomach problems on the run. I need to do more races to figure this one out. I also was surprised by how slow my bike was. I need to work on that as well. Event comments: So I've thought about this for a couple days now. Initially I was pissed about my time and that was that. I was simply pissed. I thought I should have went faster and I felt that I let myself down. Then I actually evaluated what I had done. Basically 14 months ago I could not run 1 mile without stopping, I could not bike 10 miles without having to take a break, I swam 200 yards and thought I was gong to die. I had become an absolutely out of shape, lazy, unhealthy version of me. Since that actual first day of training I have lost 20 lbs, completed in a few sprints, 1 organized bike ride, an OLY and one HIM, had knee surgery (again) and learned a ton about what kind of person I am. After thinking about all that stuff I'm not so pissed about my time... you have to start somewhere. Last updated: 2007-09-18 12:00 AM

DFL in my age group - OH YEAH!!!
I was very nervous. I woke up every 15 - 20 minutes all night thinking I was late. Basically I didn't have a good night sleeping at all. Once I woke up for real I got a shower and got dressed for the race. My wife and daughter woke up and got ready for the day then we packed everything in the car and waited for the breakfast buffet to open at the lodge. So at 7 I grabbed a bagel and coffee but I could only eat about 1/4 of it. We got to the race with plenty of time so I went in and set up my transition area and waited around for the start. I talked to a few people on the phone then it was time to head down to the beach for the start.
Not much really. Just sat around watching the sprint and mini waves start and tried to relax.
