Pre-race routine:

Geared up in Hot Chillys, Adidas Wind pants, Maine Running Co Long-sleeve Tech shirt, fleece jacket, Brooks Nightlife running shell, hat, 2 prs. gloves, 2 pairs socks, shoes. Ate a banana at 7:45, then drove to the race.
Event warmup:

Jogged a little to warm up (a cold wind was blowing, ergh), put on my ankle chip, chatted with a friend.

Comments:

It was a good run. I started out really springy, didn't think I was going that fast, but passed the first mile marker on a 9:20 pace. I kept that pace up the entire race, which was shocking, given the hills. The last mile was tough, I was hot but couldn't unzip both jackets b/c I pinned my race # to my running jacket and couldn't fully unzip it. I did take off both gloves and my hat though. The last mile I seriously thought I was going to be sick, but I wore my iPod Shuffle and the last song was "Life is a Highway" which is my motivational song--a great coincidence. So I kept going and even kicked it at the very end.
What would you do differently?:

I would not pin my number to my jacket, but to my shirt. I would only wear one pair of gloves b/c the other was off less than a mile into the run. Otherwise, I'm pretty pleased with it overall. Although dropping my hat on the course and having to stop to pick it up kinda sucked.
Post race
Warm down:

Took off my race # immediately and opened my jacket up. I then got a banana, OJ, some cheese and a donut hole, and ate those. I walked out to see if I could find any friends; when I didn't, I went to the car and headed home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Dropping my $#*Q#@*&@ Hat!!!!!!!! AND fighting with my jacket. I put a lot of energy into those things, and stuffing gloves into my pockets. At least it took my mind off the race for a bit...

Event comments:

A good race. I didn't stay for the post-race. If there was a "goody bag" giveaway, I didn't see it. I did get a t-shirt. There were no drink stations en-route but then again, at 25 degrees, they'd have been ice stations anyway. A good run, huge field, and ugly hills. Definitely a good challenge!
