Swim
Comments: I was the first wave with 50 other triathletes out of about 6 waves. The first 100 yards was pretty rough and there was a lot of fighting. There was this one guy who was right on my hip who just kept getting in my way. Then things smoothed out and it seemed as if I was swimming all by myself. After the last bouy turn we hit a few sand dunes in the water where I was tempted to stand and walk to catch my breath. I did so than dove back in to finish out the swim. I got out of the water and I had to do some walking even though I wanted to run into transition so bad. What would you do differently?: It was the last race of the season so I did not do much training, especially swimming. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was a run/walk up the beach and pier. I dipped the sand off my feet, strapped on the helmet, and jogged and hopped on my bike with the shoes already on my pedals. What would you do differently?: jog up to T1. It is just so hard to move up the sand after the swim. Bike
Comments: My brother mentioned after the race that the coarse was shortened because of some traffic issue. I was kind of upset to hear that because that would have averaged me over 21 mph. I should of known better. I believe I could have averaged over 20mph but I desided to spin my legs some before really pushing. When I was done I took a right turn on the main hwy and then the head wind hit. The head wind was majority of the coarse, which really sucked. My cadence was around 83-87. I was really trying to push it. I never even got a chance to put on my sunglasses. What would you do differently?: Couldn't do much more. Transition 2
Comments: Great T1. Went real smooth. What would you do differently?: nothing. Run
Comments: I started off the run at a moderate pace just because I have not been doing much running lately. I came to the turnaround point at 12:15, an 8:10 min/mile pace. A little after the the turn I was passed by an old guy breathing a little heavier and a young gun. I shortly seen a friend on the side of the road who asked me how much longer, I said, " Oh, I don't know...forever." I then thought to myself that I just said one to many words to be running in a sprint triathlon. This is when I decided to turn it up and knotch. I finished that last 1.5 miles in 11:10, 7:26min/mile pace. What would you do differently?: Go harder the whole run. Post race
Warm down: When I was finished I still felt as though I had some gas in the tank. I kind of wished the race was longer because it was over so fast. After, John and I ate and I got a free well needed massage. I was still sore from the MS 150 the weekend before. What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of training Event comments: race results: http://www.multisport.com/destintri/results/2007/destin072.txt some pics: http://waltonsun.emeraldcoastphotoswest.com/mycapture/folder.asp?ev... Woke up at 5am. I had a very difficult time sleeping in the hotel. I probably only got about 3-4 hours of sleep because of nerves, a crappy bed, and it was hot. Showered ate Peanut butter toast and banana. Got stuff together and got to race about 1 hr till race start. My brother came with me and it was his first time at a race. He was curious about a lot of things and I was happy to answer as many questions as I could and keep him filled in on how things were going to take place. I was happy he came and he looked like he was taking an interest and trying to understand why I am so into all this tri stuff. He came in transition with me and helped set things up with my bike.
John and I did a short 5 min warm-up together. I then went to the beach to do a swim WU. It was cool out and the water warmed me up.
