Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:00 AM and showered and had a powerbar and a diet Coke and headed to the site. Got there and checked in and hurried off to the bathrooms. Parks dept hadn't opened the park bathrooms so there were 3 portolets for 700 people. I was lucky to get in early before the lines got long. Set up transition, found Mike T and headed out to the swim start
Event warmup:

Did about 200 meters of swimming to warm up
Swim
  • 10m 55s
  • 533 meters
  • 02m 03s / 100 meters
Comments:

Decent swim. Very physical start and had to fight off a few people. Started out slower and built speed as I went, which seems to work best for me.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe start out a little faster or else start speeding up a little soooner.
Transition 1
  • 03m 2s
Comments:

Pretty good transition, had to move some other peoples stuff that was all over the place. I was glad to see that all the bikes in my area were still there for a change.
Bike
  • 33m 8s
  • 11 miles
  • 19.92 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride with the exception of my cornering which was horrible today. I also had problems with my gears which would not shift into the small ring in the front leaving me to climb the 4 bridges in the big gear.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Decent T2. I took the shoes off too early and one touched down on a final corner and went flying off.
What would you do differently?:

Gotta put the shoes on standing up.
Run
  • 30m 33s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Tough run, but I did better than I thought I would. Kept a pretty steady pace and never got too fatigued.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

No beer, so I cheered on some finishers for a while and went home for pancakes

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The Run

Event comments:

I like this race because if is a good course, especially on the bike. The run is very challenging....but that is why we do this....and it is challenging for everyone.
