Swim
Comments: Once again, the swim was my strongest event. I seeded myself in a faster group this time, and STILL passed a lot of people. Breathing and turns were better, and I kept my focus well throughout the race. What would you do differently?: A couple of passes were at the turns, and might have been smoother, but it got crowded. I may have been a bit faster in an open water environment, but I can't complain too much. Transition 1
Comments: LONG run to transition, about 1/2 mile. Fortunately, I left shoes by the swim, so the feet felt fine. Took a little long to unrack my bike, since the guy next to me was pretty close, and the rack itself was short, given my size 61 bike. All in all, though, nto too bad for me. Bike
Comments: I felt stonger on the bike this time, but once again it was my worst event. Heck, I would have moved up in the AG if I had just shaved 2 minutes off my 55 minute time, which shouldn't be hard to do. I did, however, feel much more smooth on hills, and felt like I was going faster than last year. What would you do differently?: I still need to put more time in on the bike, and I really need to spend a Saturday getting properly fitted and tack on some aerobars. Transition 2
Comments: Should have moved faster. I almost put speedlaces on my shoes, but didn't wantr my first experience with them to be a race, so I didn't. Not a terrible T2, but I don't make up any time here. Run
Comments: I did better than I thought, but my speed was not better than last year. Yet given my year of ITBS and sidelined running, I can't complain with the overall performance. Legs did not feel bad for the run. What would you do differently?: I need to work on my form and speed more. I have shown I can do the distance, now to do so smoothly and quickly. Post race
Warm down: Walked, ate a bagel or 2. What limited your ability to perform faster: Need more training in intervals. Event comments: I still love this race. It is very well organized, full of volunteers, and with the safest open course I've used. The only way to make it better would be open water, but that is geographically impossible. First class race. Usual. 2 bagels and a banana for breakfast. Set up the transition area. Stretched and relaxed with the mp3 player.
