Bike
Comments: The first 10 miles it was flat smooth pavement and it was pretty thick with cyclist which made it hard to get to the speed I was looking for. Yet, I needed to take it slow for a good warm-up for a long day. There were a total of 6 rest stops on the way that was packed with good food and drinks. At first I was not sure on how I was going to pace myself or how hard to ride. AT stop #2 I spoke with someone one team ochsner and she mentioned to keep in mind that this is a tour and not a race. After hearing that I decided that I would focus on just making it the whole way and not focus on timing and speed.I chose to stop at all of them because I never rode this distance and wanted to make sure my nutrition, hydration, and blood sugar was up to par. The route had a lot of pretty open land with cattle and few homes. It was a peaceful ride. I mostly by myself and just enjoyed the quite time. I seen a lot if rode kill. The most interesting was doe on side of the rode. I actually felt better the last 40 miles that the first 35. I think my body was getting use to the hills and a prolonged elevated aerobic heart rate. What would you do differently?: maybe do more hills. Post race
Warm down: I pulled into Percy Quinn camp ground and did about 2 more miles of hill before I was greeted with people with cow bells cheering. 75 miles down and only 75 more to go tommarrow morning. I claimed a spot in the male dorm cabin and showered and headed to eat and enjoy the festivities. I met up with a friend, Crissy, from high school and hung out with her the rest of the night. I met a lot of other really nice people. There was a live band and a beer booth that was being utilized very well by some people. I forced myself to have 2 beers but they just werent that enjoyable. I started getting tired and only made it through the first quarter of the LSU game before I decided to turn in. I layed in bed for about 2 hours burning up and listening to other riders snore unbelievably load. It finally took a Benadryl and tissue in my ears to go to sleep. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not racing so not that important. Event comments: There was a ton of very helpful volunteers. A lot of motorcycle help. There were even people at the aide stations to spray you down with flordia water. Total time on bike 4:53...total time from start to finish 6:22. I spent a little too much time enjoying the aide stations. Last updated: 2007-09-24 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:20 showered ate banana, yogurt, and waffles and sipped on some gatorade/water. Packed up things and left for an hour drive to Hammond.
Once I got to the race site I was impressed on how much of a production they made it. Balloons where everywhere and they even had a balloon banner at the race start. I picked up my t-shirt and registration with no line or problem and then took my 2 bags to the UPS truck to be delivered at the camp ground. Then tweaked up my bike and went to the start line. There were about 900-1,000 cyclers. A lot of hard core people and some fun ones...i.e. cycling Elvis'.
