Pre-race routine:

Up 3 hours before the race with coffee, oatmeal 2 hours before the race with vitamins and 1 endurolyte, outside to warm up and check outfit, stretch with PT exercises. Out the door with one hour until race time.
Event warmup:

Bathroom break, short run around Lambeau, head to start
Run

  • 3 miles

Comments:

Went out in Wave 4, realized right away GPS wasn't working, had no idea how fast I was going or where my HR was, but at about the 1/4 mile mark was the last fool in my wave, WHAT? increased speed and passed many people including wave 3.
What would you do differently?:

Test and retest my GPS, what a fool.
Transition 1
  • 02m 23s
Comments:

I came to realize I am a transition zero, I was the 464th person in T1. Not sure what the hell happened because I did not feel that slow. I did forget my glasses too.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitions, have a mental check list of what to do sequentially. I do this all the time in marathons, not sure why I never thought to really plan the details.
Bike
  • 1h 50m 21s

  • 17.40 mile/hr
Comments:

As soon as I got out of the transition area and jumped on my bike clicked in fast and was rolling only to realize my front mount water bottle top came off, Infinit everywhere! Had to unclip, stop and readjust the bottle.

Drank what was left of the bottle thorughout the course, probably about 100 cals. Realized the straw really is too short.

I really enjoyed the whole experience, even the wind. Talked to a few people along the way and traded places with a former IM WI finisher all the way to the transition.

What would you do differently?:

Test my GPS, snap on the water bottle lid, lengthen the straw. Most importantly learn to bike with the big boys! I got passed by my transition neighbor and he started 8 minutes later than me. Several wave 12s zoomed by me too.
Transition 2
  • 02m 24s
Comments:

What a poke, 495th!
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to transition

Really solid effort.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Smiled at the finish! Walked around to stretch out my very tight adductors, grabbed some food, and waited for BF Diane.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Transitions!!!!!!!! Need to spend more time in the saddle, learn to have some form on the bike.

Event comments:

Really well marked course, lots of police coverage, volunteers helpful.

Course is very scenic right on the Fox River.

Definitely on my list next year.
