Run
Comments: I started this race not knowing what to expect. I was worried about my leg hurting and nervous because I hadn't completed this distance in a year. Once the race started and I realized that I was running a lot faster than my training paces, I started to back off. Even then I was still running under a 10 min. mile. Around mile 6 I just let myself run what my body said was okay. At this point I started to feel really awesome. I'd spot a group ahead of me and try to catch up with them, pass them, and then find another group. My legs felt really numb between mile 11-13, but I was next to this girl that looked really strong. I stayed with her and eventually passed her by using my arms to help me get through and kept going. When I realized I was going to beat my goal time by close to 10 min I started booking it even more! What would you do differently?: Nothing. For the first time I feel like I actually raced and pushed myself to see what I could do. Normally I just run. Today felt awesome and I can't wait to do it again! Post race
Warm down: Walked to the finish line to cheer Hannah and Rita through then grabbed my T-shirt, a bagel or two, and waited for the age group placements. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing. Now that I know I can race faster, I'm going to train faster too! Event comments: I can't say enough about how great this day felt. Yeah for me! I was very nervous before the race. For breakfast I ate a generic power bar and loaded up on Gatorade. To calm my nerves I stretched, tied and retied my shoes, and focused on making sure I had everything I needed before the race (gels, safety pins, etc.). Focused on my goal time (2:15) and having fun.
Nothing really. I did a few groin stretches and made sure to use the bathroom twice!
