Total Time = 1h 10m 32s
Overall Rank = 46/320
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 4/16
Pre-race routine:

No alcohol 3 days prior to race. 2 full days of rest. Got there early and got myself organized.
Event warmup:

light jogging and then a good swim before going off in wave 4
Swim
  • 13m 28s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a heavy chop. Looked like at least 3 people got in trouble and needed life guard. Had to stop to let lifeguards get in there for one person who was ahead of me. Looked like some serious trouble. Took some major mouthfuls of water and coughed up quite a bit. I had to refocus as I was getting a little anxious after all this.
What would you do differently?:

Need to stay focused and not get distracted. I guess issues with other swimmers in conditions like this is a common thing? Some kept on going. Freaky for me. I thought my overall time would have been a distaster by this point - I must have stopped for at least 30 seconds and it took a while to get my head back into the race and get my pace back. I guess my swimming has improved and those long hard swims paid off a little.
Transition 1
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

My transition was much better than I thought.
Bike
  • 31m 38s
  • 10.56 miles
  • 20.03 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

I felt my bike leg was super, I passed countless people from the previous waves the entire time. My rank did not reflect this. Maybe would have pushed harder had there been some faster bike people this far back. (?) Overall, I could have pushed a bit more.
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
What would you do differently?:

I was very pleased with the transition. I got in and out of there reasonably quickly. There was one other guy and it helped push me to get out of there.
Run
  • 22m 56s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

I am a slow poke on the runs, I did not think I was going at this pace, I thought I was going much slower.
What would you do differently?:

Have to keep on working on my running. I have to continue to stretch hams and do some more intensity runs. I think this helped me take at least 1 minute off previous year's time and I am sure I can do much better.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Had some stomach problems. Not sure if it was the food the night before or the water I "drank" from the lake. Note to self - no red sauce with pasts the night before a workout or race.

Event comments:

Next year: Decisions Decisions. Am I ok for doing this sprint to wind down the season or do I want to go for the half iron?
