Overall Rank = 245/592

Age Group Rank = 20/35
Pre-race routine:

My second triathlon. Arrived at race site by 5:30 AM, set up my transition area, ate a small breakfast (banana and powerbar) and drank a bottle of water.
Event warmup:

No warmup to speak of.
Swim
  • 24m 51s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

My first ever open water swim. I wasn't able to stay with the front of the pack and found myself with a small group. The swim felt easier than I expected, I just wasn't very fast.
What would you do differently?:

I need to practice open water skills like drafting and navigating.
Transition 1
  • 02m 10s
Comments:

Average transition. Put on Garmin GPS/HR monitor.
What would you do differently?:

I need to be able to jump on the bike and get into my shoes while riding.
Bike
  • 35m 1s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 21.25 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt great starting out on the bike, passing quite a few people. Some racers with aerobars were able to get past me on the straights, they were good for 1-2 mph more. Max speed 26.5 on the final stretch. I did not feel tired at the end of the course.
What would you do differently?:

My bike is set up for fast-paced group rides, and not for triathlons (no aerobars, road frame geometry). I could go considerably faster if I could cut through the wind better.
Transition 2
  • 03m 30s
Comments:

Very slow transition. Started running towards the exit with helmet on! Just spent too much time on everything (taking cycling shoes off, putting running shoes on and lacing, drinking, etc).
What would you do differently?:

Train for speedier transitions, learn skills like removing feet from shoes while approaching transition, and flying dismount. Maybe invest in some speed laces for running shoes.
Run
  • 20m 59s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Very good run, felt great right from the start, passed a truckload of people.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, except maybe puch even harder on the last mile. Never reached 100% Max HR.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around alot.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of experience, most notably in transition speed.

Event comments:

I would certainly participate in this event again.
