Swim
Comments: It was pretty choppy out there. Felt like the current was against us on the way out. Then on the right side on the second part and finally got some tail help on the way back in. Just did a poor job of sighting. I think I was trying to get in more of a groove and wasn't sighting as much as I should have. I never really felt comfortable out there. The wetsuit helped with keeping me buoant, but I felt like it constricted my breathing at times. It was still better then last year by 29 seconds, but not the sub 28 I was hoping for. But conditions considered, I will take it. What would you do differently?: I need more practice on OWS. I wasn't expecting it to be this choppy. Transition 1
Comments: I had to walk into transition. I thought I was going to be sick from all the sea water I drank. Had to catch my breath. Walked to my bike and got ready. Ran out with my bike. Had shoes attached to the bike. First time I tried this. What would you do differently?: Nothing. It was better then last year by 19 seconds. Just need to be in better shape coming out of the water. Bike
Comments: Hopped on the bike with the shoes already on it. Got my feet on top and started going. Beat a handful of people who were trying to clip in and go. So having the shoes on the bike really helped. Started with the feet on top going across the cobblestone. Wanted to wait until I hit the solid road to get feet into the shoes. Once you hit solid road you have to make a quick turn. Once I did I started sliding into my shoes. Had some problems with this and it didn't go as smoothly as I would have liked, but I got into them and got moving. Overall the bike was pretty easy. Very little wind. This is a good race because they do a good job of marshalling the course and you don't see many groups of drafting racers. Had a few very shape turns and almost hit an orange cone going around one. It had gotten moved in closer then it should have and I took the turn a little wider. Overall this was a great bike ride. I wanted to go sub 1:15, which I obviously did. I beat my time from last year by 5min 49secs. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: Ran into T2 was good. Racked the bike and took helmet off. Put visor and race belt on. Put socks on for the run and tied the laces. Didn't have Yankz or anything because I wasn't super worried about the run. Knew it wouldn't be fast. This was 42 seconds slower then last year. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: My goal here was to run the entire run. I've only been running for 3 weeks because I had a screw put in my foot on Dec 12th. The doctor finally cleared me to run a little over 3 weeks before the race. So my running was not the greatest. Ran out of T2 and the legs were feeling like jelly. Had only done 1 brick in those 3 weeks. Felt like I was running pretty slow but hit the 1 mile mark at 7:57 on my watch. Knew I needed to slow down a bit or I wouldn't be able to run the entire distance. My 2nd mile was at about 8:30min/mile pace. I think I hung in around there and 8:45min/mile pace for the next several miles. My foot wasn't hurting at all so in the last mile I wanted to pick up the pace a little if I could. The legs were sore and tired and didn't want me to go really fast. My right quad was sore pretty much from early on in the run. Same spot it was last year, but not as bad. Got to see Jeff (Q), Shaun (CubeFarmGopher) and a few other friends on the course. Passed Lisa (GatorGirl22) and Jamie (piperfl) during the run and got a "Go Gators" and then heard them say "Oh, thats Jeff," gee, thanks for recognizing me. Came across the finish line and never heard the guy say my name. :( Walked around for a bit, got a massage and some food and walked over to were Jeff, Shaun, Besty & Gina were sitting. Saw my friend Kirk come in and then we walked back to the main area, were I found him in the food tent. What would you do differently?: Nothing except trainer harder and not break my foot. Post race
Warm down: Walked around for a bit, got a massage and some food and walked over to were Jeff, Shaun, Besty & Gina were sitting. Saw my friend Kirk come in and then we walked back to the main area, were I found him in the food tent. What limited your ability to perform faster: Broken foot and being untrained. Event comments: This is a great race. Always a ton of BTers doing it, so always meeting someone new. Plus a great chance to see old friends who I don't get to see all the time. Wish the swim wasn't so rough, but I love this course and the race overall. Last updated: 2007-10-04 12:00 AM
