Pre-race routine:

1st Race in over a year...just trying to figure out how to put on a wet suit for the first time. Also - the bike course was changed and apparently unmarked so I was attempting to memorize the new course.
Event warmup:

none
Swim
  • 18m
  • 890 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

The wet suit was a unique experience. I felt like it was choking my neck and I wasn't comfortable. I believe this affected my time to a degree. I mixed freestyle with breast stroke to mitigate some of the neck tightness issues.
What would you do differently?:

I would have practiced with the wet suit if I rented it early enough so I was more comfortable.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

not a bad transition. We didn't have chips so we didn't get transition times.
What would you do differently?:

more practice with wet suit and next time purchase body glide.
Bike
  • 40m 37s
  • 11 miles
  • 16.25 mile/hr
Comments:

My chain fell off as shifting on my old bike is not the best. I probably lost 5-8 minutes getting the chain un-jammed from the crank and then getting it re-set. Other than this mechanical failure I had an enjoyable bike ride and I felt ok.
What would you do differently?:

buy a new bike!...nah - just some more hill training since KS didn't have any.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

cramps....ouch
What would you do differently?:

train harder so the transition from bike to run isn't so painful.
Run
  • 27m 34s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

running is my weakest link but I was pleased with a sub 9min mile especially considering I stopped twice in the first mile to stretch my calves due to cramping. The first mile was probably a 12min/mile but once I loosened up I was able to make up some time.
What would you do differently?:

find a way to eliminate cramping
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

didn't train hard enough

Event comments:

Overall - I went out to have fun and finish the race without getting hurt so I accomplished my objectives. This race has served as motivation to get rady now for next season. Here's to good health!
