Swim
Comments: WE KICKED ASS! We have NEVER been passed by anyone during the Canoe part of this race, and today was no exception. We passed scores of other canoes with Men/Me, Women/Women and Men/Women. Fear Us If You DARE! What would you do differently?: Nothing...we are the Captians of the Canoe! Transition 1
Comments: Who Knows. We jump out of Canoe, throw our life jackets and paddles in a pile, then start hauling ass for the run. Had a couple of quick drinks of water, since today was VERY hot and I was sweating ALOT on the Canoe. What would you do differently?: Nuttin. Bike
Comments: This is a guess at the time. Everything I had to measure time/space and distance crapped out on me, so I used the few averages I saw and went with it. This was the last part of the triathlon, the run was after the canoe. It was a good course, but there is this 4 mile part on the bike that ALWAYS has this stupid head wind. It really slows me down. Then with about 4 miles left this kid on a Schwinn passes me. AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN! So I pass him back. A few minutes later HE PASSES ME AGAIN. Well, we did this several times, but when we had about 3/4 mile to go, I dug down for the SPECIAL ENERGY and took off like a freaking bat OUTTA HELL. SCHWINN BOY wasn't gonna beat me! I SMOKED HIS ASS! hehehe. However, I did thank him for pushing me the last few miles, as I was starting to lolly gag a bit. I need an immediate threat to push me. Transition 2
Run
Comments: Again, this was a guess at the pace. The few times my GARMIN was working, it said I was doing an average 7:30 pace. I knew the canoe time, so I just averaged the rest. I purposely backed my pace down today. I usually start off like a maniac, then die on the bike, but I held back by nearly 45 seconds per mile. It felt wierd to not push it harder, but I was passing people in droves still. I passed this one girl wearing a Ironman Wisconsin top. She trailed me for the next 2 miles, then at the end there is a HUGE CLIMB through the woods. It's on dirt and has wooden steps now and then. Wisconsin girl passed be back on this HILL OF DEATH, soooooooo technically I never got passed on the run...right? What would you do differently?: Nothing....it seemed good. Post race
Warm down: Well, I didn't collapse after the race this time. What limited your ability to perform faster: My calf still isn't completely healed and I still need to work on doing more BRICKS. Event comments: Good race. It's alot of fun. Life is such a learning experience. I really am gaining some degree of wisdom as I move along in time, plus I'm having fun doing it. I had a few hours "kinda" alone with my wifey, we had fun, kicked alot of ass, and had more fun. It was a good day. As ALWAYS, we came home and had pizza and beer...our AFTER RACE treat.
