Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4, left the house at 4:30 and arrived at the race site at 5:20. Was nearly the first one there. Got a great parking spot and checked in. After that, racked my bike and set up T. With my voluminous
spare time, I stretched a bit of Friday's 18 mile long run off. Felt great. At 10 min after 7, I headed down to the beach for a 7:30 am start.
Event warmup:

Swam 100 yards out and 100 back in. Felt ok. Once done, I got out and talked to ADollar and LHables. Soon it was time to line up to start with the 3rd wave. A minute later we were off.
Swim
  • 08m 56s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim went well. Better than I expected. I've swum very litte since IM Moo and thought I would really feel it. Perhaps it was too short to get into any real trouble. The swim time did not end once out of the water. There was a HR busting run of about 100 Yards to the timing mats. After those, it was onto T1
What would you do differently?:

Just keep training.
Transition 1
  • 02m 23s
Comments:

This transition had a gigantor hill in it which took your busted HR and busted it 10x more.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Everything went fine.
Bike
  • 36m 2s
  • 13 miles
  • 21.65 mile/hr
Comments:

Solid bike effort and my fastest avg speed in a race to date. Was pleased with this. I was only passed once. Saw ADollar down for the count after he nailed a car.. he looked ok though, just lots of blood. The bike looked worse.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. This was as I wanted it to be. Especially so close (relatively speaking) to Moo.
Transition 2
  • 00m 50s
Comments:

A pretty good T2. Pretty non descript.
What would you do differently?:

Get more efficient.
Run
  • 22m 26s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran this race last year and my run was faster, but I was peaking then, and about 14 pounds lighter. I was one minute slower this year, but I am not unhappy about that. I did an 18 mile long run on Friday night that I would grade myself a 2 out of 10 which should indicate how bad I felt. So, all in all, this was a solid effort.
What would you do differently?:

lose weight, speed work.
Post race
Warm down:

Because I finished relatively early compared to other racers, I got right onto a massage table. Other than that, I chatted, got my shirt, and ate.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

18 mile long run two days earlier, proximity to my IM where my legs are still not 100 percent, and 14 extra lbs.

Event comments:

Suprisingly, this is my sprint distance PR, and it beats last years time by a minute, thirty seconds. This event is very popular and is well done. I will be doing this one again.
