Swim
Comments: I felt I sighted correctly toward the first corner buoy, but it took forever to get there - swimmers from the third wave had caught me. After rounding the corner, I couldn't see the next buoy (because the fog and it had drifted?) and I received poor navigation advice (or over compensated toward the shore). I had a feeling something was wrong when I could only see two other swimmers. I finally got directions from a kayaker that the buoy was directly out from shore from where I was about 50 yards or so. I went flying past the rest of the buoys (because of the current) and turned for shore and fought the current pretty well to head straight in. A lot of other swimmers were downstream from me. What would you do differently?: Take a little more time to make sure I'm heading the correct way, but it was really hard in the fog. Transition 1
Comments: Pretty good transition overall (32 out of 117). Took two Endurolytes pills. What would you do differently?: Jog/run from shore to bike rack. Bike
Comments: I had a really good time on the bike - as usual - and got my goal time almost exactly. Took me a couple tries to get my feet in my shoes - I hadn't practiced that part very much, but no biggie. I had a blast on the rolling hills sections and I was constantly passing people because of my poor swim. Only got passed (and stayed passed) by one rider. What would you do differently?: Try to keep the cadence a little higher, and the heart rate lower. Transition 2
Comments: I sat down to put on my shoes and socks, and when I stood up, my hamstrings almost cramped up. Took two more Endurolytes pills. What would you do differently?: Don't sit down and maybe not wear socks. Run
Comments: I caught Paul near the end of the bike and we left T2 together. He started out slower than I did, but ended up beating me by four minutes. Every time I tried to pick up the pace, it felt like my quads were going to cramp. What would you do differently?: Try to do more bricks during training. Post race
Warm down: None - and it took a while to finish the excellent crabcake sandwich. What limited your ability to perform faster: Getting lost on the swim and fighting off leg cramps on the run. Event comments: The vounteers were great, but I could have used some more/better guidance on the swim, especially with all the fog. Last updated: 2007-10-07 12:00 AM

Packed up the night before - took two Endurolytes pills. Got up around 4:15 and left by about 5:00 - took two more Endurolytes pills. Showed up at the race sight and there was thick fog over the river (only).
Met up with my fried Paul Ludwig, although I thought he was going to be doing the Fredericksburg Century today. Checked out his new Felt - nice looking bike.
No real warm up. The race was scheduled to start at 8:00, but they pushed is back to 8:15, 8:30, and finally 9:00. The fog had started to clear by 9:00.
