Swim
Comments: Was alright, I definitely need to work on my swimming. I started towards the back, but I guess the "slower" group for this race was slower than the LA Tri "slow" group so I ended up having to swim through a bunch of people. On one of the waves in, I did not catch it right and got thrown over, water in the nose and that sucked. I did not freak out even though I was caught out of breath, oh well, more practice What would you do differently?: Get in better swimming shape so I can start further to the front! Transition 1
Comments: I think I was a little disoriented from the swim and having no breath, was a slow transition and a LONG trip to the line. What would you do differently?: Be at the front of the swim pack so it is easier to transition... Bike
Comments: Was a tough course with a lot of new people to the race. Definitely was not a race to "PR" on a bike, but still was a lot of fun. I wish they could make the lanes wider so we do have more room for some safe passing, but the race directors did warn us. Noticed a LOT of people drafting because it was so clumped together too, but still, either pass or drop back! Transition 2
Comments: I need to get faster at this part, not sure what I have to practice, maybe get bungee laces for my shoes? Take off shoes and run barefoot? dunno Run
Comments: I had an OK run. I started out faster with some guy who passed me and I passed him back and forth about 3 times. The fourth time I passed him, I started getting a cramp in my side (ugh...) and thought I would have to start walking the race course, but I convinced myself the pain would go away (it did!) and I was able to keep going. Just before I reached the turnaround, I saw ChrisM running back and was thinking I need to keep going hard if I wanted to get a good finish spot. I think I negative split the course and that was awesome What would you do differently?: Train a little harder. Most of my run training was about 9-8:45 min miles, if I knew my body was game for the faster times, I would have done it! Post race
Warm down: Walk around, head home What limited your ability to perform faster: More training.... Event comments: A great beginner race and a great way to end my first season - on a high note. I was frustrated by the bike course because I wanted to hammer that a lot more, but still, my run time made my day. Not sure if I would do this race again because it was crowded and there was no race day bag! Plus it seemed like most of the people I knew were not racing it. It has been an incredible 10 months since I decided to do my first triathlon and now, no regrets and only goals at this point. Next season I plan on getting on a podium! Wake up, eat a cliff bar, down some water and drive down to Hermosa
I hate warm-ups, but this time I got into my wetsuit and did a few in and outs. Good stuff, water was nice, I really like my wetsuit too
