Pre-race routine:

First triathlon so I got up at 4:00, actually got out of bed at 4 was awake most of the night. Ate a peanut butter and honey sandwich had some coffee and a bannana. Was excited, but didn't sleep much. Said goodbye to the wife and 4 year old.. yes he was up!!

Took a short run to loosen things up and headed to the beach

My second OWS!! I just learned to swim in January and I was astonished to be passing people!! A guy in front of me almost drown. Some nice folks held him up and screamed help so the canoe could come in a pull him up. I had to stop and tread water for about 15 sec. Hope he was ok. Slowed us down a little!

I was the happiest man on the beach when I came out... I had survived!!
What would you do differently?:

Train harder and start fatrher forward. I was afraid of being in the "mix" and freaking out. I will not hang back next time.

I was really slow and I knew it. First tri I just didn't want to forget anything!!! I can probably cut the time in half next time.. Ran part way up the hill, God what a hill!! Will run the whole way next year

Hurry and ruin up the hill!!

Felt good on the bike. I did see quite a few pukeing on the side of the road, glad it was not me. Started slow and built momentum. Finished the last 5 mi in 16.36.

Go harder from the start.

Just need to be faster. Got an ass chewing from a volunteer. THIS IS THE RUN PORTION SO RUUUUNNN! YOU CAN DO IT!!! I thought I was moving right along I just took a few steps toward the exit and she let me have it. I thought it was great. Really supportive. It got my ass moving!!

My weakest event! I did pretty well. I had a lot left and started slowly, rubber legs. Built speed the whole way and finished strong.

Push harder for the start

Warm down:

walked, shed a tear hugged my kids and wife and forgot all about the "warm down". collected my t-shirt and met some friends. GREAT DAY!!!


What limited your ability to perform faster:

No previous experience. I did better that I had feared. Overall VERY happy!!

Event comments:

Loved the race, really well organized. The volunteers were great, really supportive and happy to be there it seemed. I have not stopped smiling and I am now addicted!! Went for a 20 mile ride today at Stone mountain and am already planning next years races. Thanks to everyone that has posted on this site, great info and now I am part of the club!!! Great first time racers race. I was never in doubt about where to go or what to do. Great experience!!!
