Run
Comments: My goal going into this was to try to average an 11:45 mile. Seems like I was fighting the crowds for the first 2 to 3 miles but the were all sub 10. Where the heck did that come from? I had the Garmin set to intervals to do a 4 run 1 walk but I told myself that for the first 3 miles I was going to try to just run. I knew that the majority of the back half of the route was flat to downhill and I wanted to run all of that. My plan was going to be to start the 4-1 at mile 3. Got to mile 3 and still felt awesome so I just kept running. Ran with Craig (docshock1964) for about 200 yards until he took off. Then met up with Jonny (jbrashears) for a little. John (jcagg90) was out on the course on a bike so he would show up every few miles. It was great to get some encouragement, It was about mile 11.5 when I started to feel it. Getting back into the city the winds picked up and I realized how cold I was. My legs started to ache but I was so focused at coming in under 2:30 that I just put all of those thoughts out of my mind. Came to the chute and Andy (apw0397) was yelling at me to go faster so I sprinted across the line. 2:27:53! a 32 minute PR from the Disney half in January. I was not disapointed! Got my medal and mylar blanket. I immediately noticed that I was shivering. The mylar blanket really did a great job of keeping me warm. What would you do differently?: NOTHING!! I could not be any happier with the run. It kind of scares me though. I used to think that I was incapable of running anything faster than a 12 minute mile (for a 5K), and now I am nearing sub 11 for a half marathon. I have finally realized that the only thing slowing me down is me. Coach asked me what I thought I could do, I told her 11:45. I think the bar is set a little higher now. Post race
Warm down: Warm down s not quite what I would call it. After I crossed, I hurried back down the street to see Steve finish. I figured he would be 15 minutes or so behind me. Found Andy who was waiting for Shannon to finish. I just got there when here he comes. I could see the smile from 100 yards! And the best sight was his cap on backwards. That is his sign that he is feeling great. And why shouldn't he...he was about to PR by 47 minutes!! As soon as he passed me, I ran (if that is what you can call it) to the finish line. Met up with him, found the rest of the crew and headed into the AAC to get warmed up. What limited your ability to perform faster: I am afraid to say that there was anything that limited my ability. Who knows what I would have done if it had been 20 degrees warmer, or not raining. No complaints here! Event comments: Despite the weather, it was awesome! he post race food was gone when we got there, which was bad considering there were a whole lot of people on the course. The course itself was great. Well marked with tons of volunteers, but the logistics at the AAC were a bit confusing. Can't wait to do it again next year! Last updated: 2007-10-11 12:00 AM

Actually got to sleep in a little. The 1/2 did not start until 9 so we got up at 6 and watched the weather. OY! The cold front came in much earlier than they were originally saying. It was cold and wet. What have I gotten myself into? Decided on what to wear. I had about 4 different combinations to choose from. I was prepared for 60 and sunny to 30 and rain. Put on tights, running shorts over the tights. UA coldgear compression shirt, short sleeve tech shirt and windbreaker. Gloves and ear warmers completed the look. Headed to the AAC and found a pretty decent place to park.
Met up with Shannon, Andy, Aaron, Craig and Jacob inside the AAC. Ate a powerbar about about 45 minutes before the start. Hit the restroom, ate a gel and went out into the cold to wait for the start. Steve and I stayed at the back to avoid the crowds. Since it was chip time, it really didn't matter how long it took us to get to the line. It was about 2:30 until we hit the mat.
