Swim
Comments: This was what I feared the most. I had a bad experience in a sprint two weeks prior and now I was doing my first olympic distance. I had a good swim though (for my standards) Stayed to the right and in the back on the start. I was drifting a little to the left the entire race so I have to work on that. Once I crossed the distant marker I knew that I will finish this so I became more relaxed. What would you do differently?: nothing really. The goal of this first race was to fininsh and drop some weight while training. I had accomplished both of those. Transition 1
Comments: I obviously need to practice my transitions. It took me a long time to get my socks on and I totally messed up on my race belt. I left it hanging on by bike handle and did not realize that after I exited T1. So I had to dismount in a congested area and fix it. In the process I broke one of the holes on the number and I had the muber fly like a flag. This was distracting. What would you do differently?: Work on getting my socks on faster. Not put my number on until the run. Bike
Comments: I was a huge nerd and I actually programmed the Pinehurs course profile into my Computrainer at home. I practiced this course several times on the trainer. Overall I think I made the gradients on the trainer harder than the real race. So I thought that this was easier than practice. I had one problem which cost me about a minute whem my chain fell off on an uphill. What would you do differently?: I have to practice drinking while riding. I also have to work on riding at a slightly higher cadence. My legs were feeling it at the end so it affected my run. Transition 2
Comments: This was better than T1 but will need to practice. My four year old had organized a big cheering section and that was adorable. She had signs for me and screemed shamelessly. This was a big motivation for the run What would you do differently?: practice riding with feet on top of shoes. Run
Comments: I passed one guy on the first hill but then things started to get bad. I was running out of energy and my left ankle started hurting. It was a struggle until the end. What would you do differently?: practice more. I need to drop more weight to compete with clydesdales who are still 30 + pounds lighter. Post race
Warm down: not much. many hugs from my four year old What limited your ability to perform faster: my weight Event comments: Its a little far to drive to NC from Washington DC so I will probably look for races closer to home next season. Overall I am totally hooked and plan on keeping this up. Last updated: 2007-10-13 12:00 AM

My first olympic tri ever. I was very nervous. I had a warm up sprint distance last week and it did not go very well so I was not sure about this. We drove all the way from Washington DC and got stuck in approx 10 hrs of traffic. I had all of 5 hrs of sleep before the race.
Once I got to the race site I found the friend that talked me into this.
stretched, bathroom 3-4 times, tried to mentally relax for the swim
