Swim
Comments: The swim was particularly hilarious, for one the crazyness before it didn't help at all. Actually I think I did alot better then my time shows, mainly because I added another 100 or so meters onto the swim because I couldn't see at all because my right goggle filled up with water and the other lens was fogged so I was following the guy in front of me. Well we come around the final buoy and turn for home, Next thing I know I feel a big ol slap on the back and someone is yelling at me. Yup I got slapped by a kayaker, and he let us know that we missed the far buoys, so we turned around and got back on track. Other than that mishap and the fact I could not sight for the life of me with the goggles how they were the swim felt pretty good. Oh and my time includes about half of my transition because I took of my wetsuit before the mats because transition was in the dirt and I figured my suit would have turned to mud. What would you do differently?: Get new goggles and a sense of direction. Transition 1
Comments: I really took it slow in transition because I knew the mtn bike would be tough at the start, that and the fact my transition area was a mess didn't help. Bike
Comments: The mountain bike was definitely fun the course actually had alot of elevation change, making it feel like you were always going uphill. On the first lap my back was hurting pretty bad but it loosened up at the start of the second lap. The second lap I was pleased because I rode all the climbs on the course (there were about 3 or 4) that most were walking up. Only problem with the second lap was I got a little over-confident on a downhill and there was a 180 degree turn at the bottom, I hit that and my bike just slid out, leaving a nice set of scrapes up my right leg. Transition 2
Comments: Another slow transition, mainly because I wanted a gel but I left those in my bag so I had to do a small amount of searching for them. Run
Comments: OK.... my time is from the official results and I don't wear I watch, but I really, REALLY don't think I went this fast. Not that I am complaining. It's just that the course was quite difficult coupled with the fact I have never ran that fast in my life makes me question it. The run did feel great though, no pain or anything it was really fun. There was only about two points on the course where you could cross paths with other people and it was so funny because at one of them I saw Jen and at the other I saw Milton. Post race
Warm down: I won a beanie in the raffle which was cool. I tried wearing it but it is still a bit warm out :) After that we chatted with Milton and csparks for a while then hit up kokobelli for some lunch. Event comments: Overall despite some fallbacks and difficulties I really enjoyed the event, very different from most tempe triathlons. Last updated: 2007-10-14 12:00 AM

We tried a new italian place the night before the race and while the food was excellent it was certainly not agreeing with me in the morning so I had some oatmeal and dealt with it.
The warmup consisted of getting to the venue, realizing that I had left my helmet and camelback at home. At this point I was in freak out mode but luckily we had gotten there early to register Jen so I dropped her off and sped over to walmart to buy a new helmet (which looked suprisingly nice) and a camelback (which barely worked) then going back to the event. Got there with enough time to throw together the worst transition area ever, stuff was just sort of piled on the ground, and get my wetsuit on with 30 seconds to go before the start of the race.
