Swim
Comments: Surprised to have Swim as my best rank of the day! I really enjoy swimming at Joe Pool Lake. The water temp was perfect. The waves picked up a bit on the turn around and I had to breathe really high to get out of the wave coming over my head. At least I was breathing away from the waves so they simply washed over me rather than into my mouth! Time trial start was kinda weird for a beach start.. still it was unique for me to get to run down the boat ramp and dive in after the "gun". I think I like "beach" starts! What would you do differently?: Maybe use clear goggles on an overcast day. It was quite difficult to see and vision was more important since the time trial start thinned the athletes out... fewer people around to sight off of. Transition 1
Comments: Dawdled in T1. This wasn't an "A" race and my foot still hurt from Texas Man so I opted to pull my shoes off the bike in T1 and put them on my feet to save my sore foot from running on the uncomfortable asphalt. What would you do differently?: Prepare my shoes off bike if I planned to run in them. Typically I do not have this issue. Bike
Comments: AG rank would have been 3rd if not for the flat tire. I enjoyed the course but the cars were a bit scary and the road surface sucked badly. What would you do differently?: um... buy slime tires to avoid flats. It didn't bother me at the time but after seeing it cost me an award, I was pretty bummed. Transition 2
Comments: Good T2. Felt great and ready to run. What would you do differently?: nothing. Run
Comments: Good run. Tried to push a little more with each mile. I'm completely thrilled with my 10k time. This basically knocks the socks off of any previous 10k. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Walk around, chat with friends, look for hubby to finish. Go Greg!! Drank lots of water and ate remaining 4 cliff blocks immediately. I finished just in time to watch the pro's getting their checks. Very cool. I was in the presence of greatness! I was pleased with my time even with the flat and thrilled that I did so well. I didn't get bummed about it until someone pointed out I was 4th. To think I could have come home with a medal! I didn't think I'd be close. What limited your ability to perform faster: Flat tire... lesson learned and I'm so glad for it in a race that I didn't have big goals for. Event comments: The only issue with this race was the road surface quality and the Dallas drivers who made it a bit scary by not listening to the cops. Toyota did a great job of traffic control at EVERY SINGLE INTERSECTION including volunteers at parking lot driveways to keep cars from cutting across us. Even with all that, I saw some pretty sad bike accidents, and had a flat myself which I blame on the road b/c my tire blew out fast. Last updated: 2007-10-14 12:00 AM

Overall Rank = 29/112
Age Group = F3034
Age Group Rank = 4/22
Note - overall time without flat tire would be 2:37:24 - super! Would have been 20th overall and 2nd in AG.
Woke up at 3:20am and fixed coffee and oatmeal. At 3:50, babysitter arrived. At 4:10 hubby and I left for Reunion Arena. Since the start was still ~4 hours away, I brought my coffee and oatmeal to eat in the truck.
This pre-race was unlike any other. Bikes had been dropped off at Cedar Hill State Park the day before. We arrived and parked at Reunion and setup T2 spots. Happy to have racks marked. By 5am we were catching the shuttle down to Cedar Hill. After 100-bottles-of-bear-on-the-wall, we arrived at T1 with our bike and swim gear in hand.
The wind was blowing and the air was much colder at the lake. I was freezing. I took my transition towel and used it as a blanket until 7:00.
T1 closed at 7:15. Everyone was in wetsuits early, probably b/c it was so stinking cold.
Good news - the water temp is a balmy 76 degrees... wetsuit legal!!
They offered a beach area for warm up, but with the cold air, I don't think anyone wanted to go down there and then stand around to await the start. I did a dry land swim warm up which was the same thing as "the dance to stay warm on the shore." ;)
