Pre-race routine:

quedoba the night before followed by a strawberry bannana protein shake

PB and banana wheat bagel about 4:20 and then a luna bar about 7:00 when race was delayed
Event warmup:

it of jogging
Swim
  • 33m 42s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 36s / 100 yards
Comments:

freaking freezing. hands were starting to feel numb. overall, my swim was very good. by far the largest mass swim start i've done, so it was different and took a while for me to get into my groove.
Transition 1
  • 03m 56s
Comments:

i thought my transition was good, but looking at other peoples, i was kind of slow...
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 2h 49m 42s
  • 56 miles
  • 19.80 mile/hr
Comments:

had a good bike, could have pushed harder, but didn't know what to expect in the run. i think i drank enough because i had to pee on the early part of run. ate fig newton, sharkies and a gu. alternated water and heed.

again, this was a larger race than i've done before and i was surprised at how people squeeze thru to get by you. the amount of "bike" debris suprised me along the course and at water stations as well.
What would you do differently?:

maybe push harder?
Transition 2
  • 02m 40s
Comments:

felt it went smoothly.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Run
  • 2h 06m 20s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

first loop went smoothly...2nd loop was not so good. i was under fueled and hydrated and started to feel sick. did use salt tablets at the rest stops. didn't walk much, but more than i wanted to. at the same time, the run was the part i was majorly under trained for, so i didn't have that high expectations.
What would you do differently?:

not walk as much, even if it means to slow down running pace. not psych myself out. use something other than heed and have more plain gel AND have regular water on my belt.
Post race
Warm down:

walking around. sittingdown.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

under fueled and hydrated on run. under trained for distance and time. psyching myself out thinking i wouldn't finish.

Event comments:

delayed an hour (maybe 1:30), but it was due to fog. they almost canceled the swim!

lots of volunteers at water stations and police at traffic stops. lots of people just watching from their front yards, which i thought was cool. good food at the end, even though i didn't feel like eating much, the family ate mine for me!
