Age Group Rank = 60/141
Pre-race routine:

Normal breakfast ~2.5 hrs before race start.
Constantly drinking water and gatorade.

Got to the transition area when I wanted but should have gotten there about 15-30 minutes sooner as I felt a little rushed. Laid out my area but didn't really go through my transition routines since I had to vacate the area. Grabbed my suit and watched the pro's with Dave.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 26m 28s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

Beginning was much more frenzied than expected. So many swimmers made getting any sort of rhythm impossible with all the bumping, etc. Took about 200y to get going for real. After that, things calmed down and cruised. Drafting was a given since there were so many people. Forced myself to go slow at start and picked up the pace along the way, especially last third of the course.
What would you do differently?:

Get to the start sooner. Had to rush to get the suit on. Not much else could be done about the crowded swim.
Transition 1
  • 02m 41s
Comments:

Passed my rack spot on the way in. Overall, fairly happy.
What would you do differently?:

Pay more attention to my rack spot.
Bike
  • 1h 20m 26s
  • 25.48 miles
  • 19.01 mile/hr
Comments:

Rode course twice before which helped, but Bob's hill ride in Ellicott City helped most. This course has nothing on that hill ride...thanks Bob.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more, although I was hitting the water and gatorade frequently. This would have helped more for the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

Passed the darn rack spot again. Took a second for a breather and drink. Felt good at this point and figured taking 5 seconds to collect myself wouldn't hurt.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, except pay more attention to where I'm racked!
Run
  • 50m 32s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

I was hoping for a little faster run and this turned out to be my poorest performance of the 3 even though I'm more of a runner. Cramped up on the hills outside of the park which tempered my pace. Should have pushed it more though.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more coming off the bike. Also, didn't finish the last gel before the bike finish which might have helped.
Post race
Warm down:

up and down the hill getting food

What limited your ability to perform faster:

hydration

Event comments:

Great race and close to home. Challenging courses gives a true feeling of accomplishment.
