Pre-race routine:

Woke around 5:20, had a cliff bar and a gatorade. woke up the kids, loaded up the cars and drove the race. Arrived around 6:30. Helped my daughters Kai (9) and Kira (15) set up their bikes in our family wave rack area. We got a great spot. We had a lot of time to wait before our wave, so we walked around, watched the other people, and had Kip and Derek take pictures of us.

Stayed right next to Kai - she did great!!! She got a little tired, but kept moving forward. Kira was up ahead - we found out later that she was first out of the water for our wave!

Kira was already almost done, and was looking for the bike exit. Kai and I got out of our wetsuits and she took off a little bit ahead of me. I took my time, knowing that I would catch her very quickly.

Stayed right behind Kai - it was a nice, pleasant ride. We chatted - it didn't seem like she was huffing too hard. She turned up the speed at the end.

Kai took off ahead of me from transition - it was hard to catch up. We ran for about a mile and came up to Kira. The two of them took off and I tried to keep up, but couldn't quite. Kai ran in first, then Kira, then me. A great finish!

Event comments:

This was purely to introduce Kai and Kira to the sport. Kira was very happy with the swim and tolerated the rest. Kai was pretty excited and would like to do another. They ended up placing respectably for a couple of kid newbies!
