Swim
Comments: I was worried about the swim going in - normally it is my strength but I had only been in the water 2x the past few weeks. Swim started good and three of us broke away from the rest of the pack. It was much rougher than normal but I just held my line and eventually broke free of the pack. At the third cone, the three of us turned, sited the next cone and started to swim towards it. After about 50-75 ft, a volunteer swatted us with his paddle and told us we missed a cone and had to go back. I headed back but the other two swimmers just cut the course and headed towards the next cone. WTF? I was so pissed off that the other two did not turn around with me. I really wanted to keep going with them but knew I could not cheat. Headed back, went around the cone and then finished off the rest of the course. Navigation was excellent the rest of the course and I ran into almost no problems passing people from the earlier waves. What would you do differently?: Don't rely on others to navigate for me, don't miss a cone. Transition 1
Comments: Good T1. The norm - no socks, wetsuit off, helmet, sunglasses, shoes on, get bike and am off. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: My best ride to date. This is a challenging course (most of the pros only averaged 23 or 24) but I decided to attack it. I was up out of my saddle on the hills, pounding the downhills and passing lots of people. Passed hundreds and was only passed by 5. Went back and forth with a few guys from my AG - I would pass them downhill and they would catch up uphill. I have never attacked a course like I did this and it worked out as biking is usually my weakeness but I had a good ride. What would you do differently?: Nothing - had everthing going right - people in my AG to race, good temps, little wind. Transition 2
Comments: Uhh...this sucked - could not tie my shoes bc hands were not working and had to turn around because I left my sunglasses on. What would you do differently?: Lots Run
Comments: This was an ok run - started off with tired legs but they came around a mile or so in. I think I had a little too much fun yelling at the volunteers (one aid station had everyone dressed as Dolly Parton = awesome) and probably should have concentrated a little harder on running and not on socializing. Focused well the last 2 miles and realy picked up the pace then and caught some people that had passed me earlier in the run. Passed by 5 people, caught 2 of the 5 later in the race and passed a lot more from earlier waves. Good time/pace considering how hard this run is. What would you do differently?: Concentrate more in the middle few miles. Post race
Warm down: Ate food, ate more food. Talked with Penn State, who has 2 really cute kids and a few other guys in my AG. Ally was awesome and I heard her over everyone at each transition. :) What limited your ability to perform faster: Not a great month of training for me, experience doing tri's, missing the cone. Event comments: Fun race, well run, good competition, pretty course. Last updated: 2007-10-16 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:20, ate 2 cliff bars and a gatorade, packed up the Xterra and Ally and I drove to the racesite. Was so pumped for the race - 22 pros including Macca, Leito, Yoder, Lovato, Shapiro, Desiree, Corbin and 38 Elites meant this field was stacked.
Talked with Turtle and Slake before the swim.
Walked from the transition area over to the swim start, swam about 50 yards, water was much colder than advertised.
