Run
Comments: This was a really good run for me. I had a goal of 2:10 and I thought I would really be pushing it to make it, yet I finished 7 minutes ahead of that. I've noticed I usually start too slow, so I tried to start off faster today. I don't think it really helped because there were so many people it was hard to start at a good pace. My heart rate monitor also flaked out at the start so I messed with it some at the beginning. I ended up just getting the hr function working and went from there. I also dropped the plan to keep my hr below 164 for the first 6 miles. It was up in the 170's by the time I got the monitor working again and it stayed there the whole race. I ran from mile to mile just trying to stay under 10 min/mile and noticed that I was actually under my goal so I just tried to stay steady and keep going. Mile 9 was a great mile, but I dropped some between 10 & 11. I was able to pick it up again and had a surprisely good finish. I improved my time over last year by 27 minutes so I'd say it was a good race! What would you do differently?: Could have used one more gel shot. I could feel my energy level decreasing as I approached every 4th mile. I had my first one at mile 4 and tried to hold off for #2 until mile 9. One more would have helped me some I think. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: I wore my jacket and a short sleeve running shirt b/c I was worried it would rain. I ended up being a little warmer than I wanted to be. I also could have used 1 more gel shot. Overall it was an excellent run for me and I can't complain. Event comments: I would have liked to have seen better timing annoucements/signs at the mile markers, but they had someone/something at almost all of them so I really can't complain.
