Swim
Comments: I missed my start because I wasn't paying attention. I realized the start was happening about 15 secs before the horn blew so i was rushing to get my forerunner stuck under my cap. As a result I was about 30 seconds late starting the swim, and didn't press the right button on my forerunner. I felt like I quickly caught up with my wave and ended in the middle of the pack. I was happy with my sighting over the last 600m and I was happy with passing people who were walking early by swimming until my hands touched the bottom. What would you do differently?: Pay more attention to the start and be ready for it. Transition 1
Comments: I took a little more time than I should have since I had to remove my forerunner from the ziplock bag, and then had to figure out that I hadn't successfully started the timer before the swim. Bike
Comments: The course ends in a 4-5 mile hill that gains 1200ft or so. It's a nasty climb, and I had ridden it a month ago to prove that I could, that and to have the joy of coasting back down it at 45 mph. I made a point of drinking every mile and ended up drinking 2/3 of the liquid I had, I did this because 2 weeks before this race I had done a race and ended up with a nasty dehydration headache for the rest of the day. I'm happy to say I had no headache after this race. I was happy with my bike ride even though I was very slow because I haven't done very much training on the bike in the last 2 months. What would you do differently?: I probably went a little slow on the first 21 miles of the course because I was trying to save for the hill, so I would push a little harder earlier. Transition 2
Comments: It was hard to run through the transition since my legs were a little wobbly after the big bike climb. Run
Comments: I was pretty tired at this point, and the big (for me) hills slowed me and most of the people around me to a walk. I could have finished a little stronger but I ran with a person trying to finish the sprint for a while trying to motivate them. Post race
Warm down: walked around and drank water and ate cinnamon rolls, then I drove to In-N-Out and had two Double-Doubles Animal Style w/ a Strawberry Chocolate Shake. mmmmmmmmmmm, In-N-Out What limited your ability to perform faster: me Event comments: I finished about where I was expecting to. My race prep was pretty bad because of some personal things going on in my life, but I'm glad I ran this race. It allowed me to cap my season by completing my season goal of an Olympic distance triathlon. Last updated: 2007-10-17 12:00 AM
