Run
Comments: Weather was pretty much ideal, but I had too many layers on since I started so early. I would have loved to ditch my outer layer, but I had no one to pass it off to and I was wasn't willing to risk not getting it back. I was wearing my distance challenger finisher's pullover from 2 years ago. Kept an easy pace for the first 6 miles as planned. At the halfway point, I gradually upped the pace each mile for the rest of the race. Mile splits don't mean much on this course, because it's so downhill, but I pushed my HR by about 3 bpm each mile. Mile 13 averaged at 179. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I did this pretty much exactly as planned. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Not trying to run fast. ;) I am curious how I would have done if I went flat out, but I'm glad I was disciplined and did the training run I meant to. I seriously considered doing just the race, especially at 10 pm on Saturday night when I realized how cold it was going to be at 6 am. Event comments: The race itself is fun and fast. Post race was a bit of a disappointment. You could either wait 10-15 minutes for a couple of breakfast tacos, or get Oreos, bananas, and generic Gatorade from the HEB tent. I probably would have had a better opinion if I had raced it and finished 20 minutes earlier. ;) Last updated: 2007-10-19 12:00 AM

I got up just before 6 and had a bagel, some water, and a little bit of Diet Coke. Bundled up a bit because the temp had dropped over night and hit the road.
The idea today was to do a 19-20 miler with the 1/2 making up the second 2/3 of that run. That meant doing about 6 miles before the race. Fortunately, the start is just a couple of miles from my house, so I left just after 6 and did easy 9:00 miles over to the starting line. The race was delayed for a couple of minutes, so I made some circuits on the side roads until the gun went off.
