Comments:

Much better than last year, where I could not swim straight. This time I made sure I looked up often to make sure I was stil on course. I could taste the gasoline in the water which was not fun.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. It's tough not being able to do a open water swim before this race.
Transition 1
  • 03m 3s
Comments:

Started out as a walk because I felt a little off coming out of the water, but picked up to a jog once I got into the bike area. I decided just to sit on the ground to get my wetsuit off because I have not been able to get out of it quickly in practice. I clicked into my bike quickly which is always a concern for me.
What would you do differently?:

I still need to figure out how to quickly get out of the wetsuit.

Comments:

I had some issues with my bike in that it seemed that my chain was about the fall off as I shifted into a lower gear going up the hills. I had to stay in a higher gear than I wanted to which took something out of my legs. I was more comfortable using my aerobars.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my gears are working right. Do more hill training.
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

Smooth except that I forgot to put on my race number on.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 25m 53s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

I think the course is slightly less than 3 miles because I ended up walking up a small hill and still ran close to my best pace. I had a stomach cramp and my calves were shot post bike, but it did not get worse so I was able to keep my pace besides the hill.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, I was disappointed that I had to walk the hill, which I did last year as well.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around as my dog licked the sweat off my legs.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to do more bike work as well as some more bricks.

Event comments:

I like this race better than the other ones I have done around KC. The fact that it has been run for several years I am sure helps. The only complaint I have is the water quality of the lake, but that is not something that can be fixed.
