Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30 got everything together. Getting into to park was easy it seemed everyone was coming from 29 so I didn't have to wait. P was suppossed to be there with me but couldn't make it due to family emergency. This is only my second triathlon and wished I had someone there to support me and keep me company since I had to wait 2 hours.
Swim
  • 29m 51s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

Was not expecting it to be this cold. The start was crazy, I seemed to have a harder time with this swim than IronGirl. People kept running into me and I kept hitting others. I wanted to do the swim in 30 to try to meet my goals.
What would you do differently?:

Train more and do drills.
Transition 1
  • 04m 52s
Comments:

Oh man, coming out of the water I thought I was going to faint. I took my time walking while everyone else was running up the hill about half way through I was able to run.
What would you do differently?:

Get used to getting my legs underneath me.
Bike
  • 1h 38m 44s
  • 25.48 miles
  • 15.48 mile/hr
Comments:

I almost didn't even to this race considering I have been on the road only a couple of times this year and I haven't even gone 25 miles. So, I am just amazed I survived this and I had so much fun.
What would you do differently?:

My only other tri in August I averaged 15.9 so I am just happy that I wasn't to far off with little training.
Transition 2
  • 02m 39s
Comments:

I think I could of made it faster. My feet were numb and had to get the shoe feel right and had to make a quick pit stop.
Run
  • 1h 12m 42s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

This is were it went downhill. I was on target to get 3:15. I started to run and my front right leg cramped up this did not let up til around mile 4 and by that point the hills were just killing me. Part of this was mental just looking at these hills I just couldn't. I thought I would have been able to least get around 60 minutes for the run not much more since this is what I have been doing more of.
What would you do differently?:

Train on more hills.
Post race
Warm down:

I actually ran into a work buddy who came out to see me, it was perfect as I was coming down gatorade hill I saw him. Could not have planned that better. It made my day that he came since P couldn't be there. After I finished I walked back to meet up with him. We got my gear together and went out to lunch. Since I was one of the later ones I had no idea were the food and such was. Who knew it would be on top of the hill. Not really organized about that.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I have been sick off and on for the past couple of months, and recently got a new job that has not helped with my training.

Event comments:

Before I completed Columbia I didn't know if I would ever want to do this again since it is so early and my bike training seems to be lacking in the beginning of the season. I hate to ride indoors. But now I might reconsider since this was a great time for me. It's getting me mentally ready for my next race. While I'm disappointed in my time I am glad I finished and felt great doing it.
