Swim
Comments: Much stronger swim than last year, still lots of work to do, but under 2min/100 so a good pace for me, not last out of the water either for a change. Considering I have done almost no swim training this season i was happy. What would you do differently?: Sighting was dificult, small bouys and the sun was in an awkward spot. not sure I can do much about that, maybe just try and follow someone? Transition 1
Comments: Started with shoes on the bike for the first time, bit of a slow transition while I tried to get helmet and number etc on (to windy to set it up my normal way), but i think the shoe thing works well. Got up to speed and into my shoes ok. What would you do differently?: Didn't really "jump" onto the bike, got to speed that up a bit. Bike
Comments: Didn't really enjoy the ride today, four laps, and the first one was just hard work, had a stich (first time in years - don't know why) salty mouth and couldn't get my rythem. Eventually got enough water and sports drink in to make me feal a bit better on the second lap and then found my rythem and was cruising from then on. The bike held me back today, used the old road bike agian so i could get some idea where I am this year compared to last, i don't like that bike anymore (good for riding to work and thats about it!), uncomfy, cluncky and dirty...maybe a service, fit and clean are in order. What would you do differently?: Ride the tri bike... Transition 2
Comments: felt like a quick T2, left shoes on the bike which seemed to work well, the only thing that slowed me down was puting my socks on. What would you do differently?: Run without socks...don't think i can in my current shoes, but i'll get some new ones and hopefully that will help. Run
Comments: Average run, kept a fairly steady (but slow) pace, lots of negative thoughts unfortunatly so couldn't bring myself to push...told myself it's only 4km, but just couldn't will my legs to turn over any faster. Same time as last year thou and I have done no where near as much training. What would you do differently?: Have to get back into training my mind again...stupid brain... Post race
Warm down: Sat in the shade and did 10 mins of streching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. Event comments: Set out to beat my time from last year, which I did by almost 3min (mostly in the swim and trans, ride and run times were almost identical to last year). Last year I had a solid 8 weeks of training after a strong hockey season before this race, this year I have been quite sick, and last fortnight was the first 2 consecutive training weeks I have had in about 3 months. Given all of that, I think I am in a better position this year than last at this time, I think i hit my peak too early last year (about 4 weeks out from busso) so hopefully the sickness has been a blessing in disguise, getting some coaching and a personalised plan this year, taking long service leave and focusing more on the quality of my training. All in all I am happy with this race, and has given me some confidence for the season ahead. Last updated: 2007-11-02 12:00 AM
