Pre-race routine:

Oatmeal, with 1/2 bannana, and a chocolate GU 45 minutes before race time.
All my muscles were pretty stiff, so I spend quite a bit of time trying to loosen up a bit.
Event warmup:

Pace runs, stretching, and such.

Comments:

As usual, in spite of my best efforts, my first mile was too fast - with a 7'14" time. I tried to pace myself after that, but after mile two I knew I was slowing down - but I tried my hardest to keep a 7:30 pace overall. From the quick mental calculations I was doing on the fly, I need that I had a good chance to PR this race - and beat the elusive 48 minutes I have been trying to beat for the last two years.

Keep everything going strong until the last 1.2 miles, then I tried to convince myself to speed up - but it doesn't look like it worked very well from my mile splits. Anyway, made it to the 6 mile point, and I just gave it everything I had - came careening thru the gate, totally out of breath, and barely able to stay vertical. I glanced at the clock as I came thur, and saw 47'21" - SWEET!!!

So, not only did I break 48 minutes, but I cut almost a full minute off my time from last year, for a new PR for the 10K distance.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, other than not destroy my legs on hill repeats and hill runs four days before the race. This was an overall awesome weekend - I reached my Goal Weight on Saturday, for the first time since about 1975, and then on Sunday I PR a 10K - it doesn't get much better than that!!!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, gave my wife a good sweaty hug, and tasted the food/drink samplings.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of high intensity training. I have just started on a new program of track workouts (still trying to break a 6 minute mile), hill repeats and hill running. That seems to be helping (plus the fact that I am 5 pounds lighter this year probably also helped).

Event comments:

Chico Running Club does an awesome job. Lots of volunteers, lots of food and water, and perfect weather!!!

Plus, they had full results posted within 24 hours of the race!!!!
