Swim
Comments: Really smooth swim start to finish. Typically takes a couple hundred meters to get into a groove, but I was feeling good right from the get-go. Great form, good breathing, solid technique all around. What would you do differently?: Maybe push the pace a little more. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was much better than last year, but still an area I can improve. Need to be somewhat more decisive here and just move. Bike
Comments: Crushed the bike leg. Passed a ton of people and didn't get passed at all myself. Kept my cadence high and just switched back and forth between a couple gears. Strong showing. What would you do differently?: Corner better. Transition 2
Comments: Long run up to transition. Slipped and fell while running bike b/c I turned too tight in my bike shoes as I went across the road. A volunteer was yelling at me to turn early and run my bike across the rocks rather than the mat, so I followed her direction so I wouldn't be penalized for anything. Caught a nasty gash on my leg, but no worries. What would you do differently?: Not pay attention to bad advice from volunteers when I know what I'm doing. Run
Comments: This is where I typically do my best work. Should have hydrated more on the bike because I could have used more water here. By the time you start running, taking on water in a 5k doesn't do much good. Regardless, I passed a ton of folks here and maintained pretty solid pace. A nice performance all around. What would you do differently?: Drink more water on the bike and get some more nutrition on the bike. Post race
Warm down: Just some stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: I need to get through transition faster. My time for the actual swim, bike and run portions was under an hour. If I could have cut another two minutes off transition, I'd be that much closer to the front of the race! Event comments: In 2007, this was my first tri. I've since moved to San Francisco, but made the trip east because I just love this one. Lots of sentimental value too because I grew up nearby and my folks can come out and watch. Anyway, a great time. Already looking forward to 2009. Last updated: 2007-11-06 12:00 AM

Woke at 4:50, ate a bowl of plain oatmeal and had a couple sips of coffee.
Got to the park by 5:30. Lined up for body marking, found a nice spot in transition and then mulled over my transition spread for a few minutes. Afterward, put in an easy mile warm-up jog and a couple hundred meters in the lake.
