Run
Comments: The run went well. I felt better than I did a few weeks ago at Run to Feed the Hungry. Again, I had my own bottle of sports drink so I didn't have to stop at the aid stations and could drink whenever I wanted to. I still probably should have had more to drink. It was tough to push as hard as I was. I'm not used to it, and I would have thoughts like "I can't hold this pace", or "I'm gonna have to walk", but I didn't walk at all, even on the hills. I told myself that even my putt-putt jogging on some of the hills was faster than walking. I was nervous and excited about this race unlike I have been for a while. I knew my team was counting on me and even though I tried to set their expectations realistically, I still felt pressure to perform well. I felt I did well, and my team said I did too, so that's good enough. I was thinking maybe I could get closer to 8min/mi, but I forgot how many hills there are on that leg. On a flatter course, maybe. What would you do differently?: Drink more? Post race
Warm down: Did a good round of stretching out my legs, then tried to find my wife among the crowd, and failed. Eventually I got so cold that I went into Denny's and got a hot chocolate. Then I went out and tried again and eventually found her about 45 min after I had finished. Then we went to the finish line, got a few snacks, and picked up the last runner (who ran legs #3 & #4) to take her back to her car. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training, extra weight. Event comments: CIM is a great race. World class athletes, lots of volunteers and crowds to cheer you on, and lots of places for your support crew to meet you on the course to cheer you on as well. Last updated: 2007-11-07 12:00 AM

I run leg #2 of 4 as part of a relay team. My leg was 7.6 miles.
Ate breakfast at about 6am. Since the start of my relay leg is only a few blocks from my house, I jogged over there and watched the front wheelchair athletes, and runners go by. At about 10min before I expected the first leg runner to come in, I had a gel packet. I didn't have the hunger during the run that I did at my last race.
Warmup was the jog to the start of my leg, plus some hopping in place.
