Swim
Comments: Did breast stoke the entire way. Could go faster. Every time I tried the crawl/freestyle pulled hard to my right. What would you do differently?: 2009 = Crawl. Transition 1
Comments: The get out from the river to where you leave with your bike has to almost be a mile. It was really a long distance to go. Time was bad, but part of it was just the distance involved. What would you do differently?: Practice transistions. They where all bad this year. Bike
Comments: Feet had a burning pain after 80+ miles. Felt like a blowtorch on the balls of my feet. Suspect now that my shoes where too tight, but haven't gone to that distance before. Also when I stepped down at the special needs I got a clump of the ashfault on my cleat, so it was really really hot. What would you do differently?: Nothing, really happy about the ride. Transition 2
Comments: When I got to T2 was unsure if I would finish due to what was happening with my feet. Gave my feet a massage, & they started to feel better slowly. Talked with Sandi & gave the run a go after a few minutes. Change tent was extremely hot, (122?). The volunteers desirve medals. What would you do differently?: Just go for it? Run
Comments: So when I started running I was fine for about the 1st 4 miles, once I started running through down town with out any wind, the heat did me in. Thermometers on the bank buildings where 97 degrees. At 5 miles dumped Ice down my pants, and down my shirt to attempt to cool off. Was walking race by mile 6 and continued as blisters became really bad due to the ice melting into my shoes. Finish area is unreal when you get done!!!! What would you do differently?: No Ice in my shorts, where a cap where the Ice should have gone I found out later from my team mates. Run a marathon distance race (RNRAZ 2009)! so that I have confidence in the distance. Post race
Warm down: walked as best as possible to medial tent for blister problems. What limited your ability to perform faster: Blisters/Heat problems. Event comments: Really a good race, just hotter than I could believe. I am going to do another Ironman so I can have a better PR. THis course was flat to me, but the folks from Texas all said it was really hilly?? Last updated: 2007-11-11 12:00 AM

Got to lousiville on wed, biked part of the course thursday - Friday so I knew what was coming. Tried to get used to the heat & Humidity. 1st ever full IM, so goal was just to finish. It was really neat to watch how the set up occured over a few days on the great lawn!. Swam in the Ohio both days, and discovered no need for a wet suit, 1st + only race all season. NW lakes never got warm this year.
not much, stood in line for the start, about 2/3rds of a mile from where you go in. I was one of the last 50 starters.
