Pre-race routine:

Picked up Jason and Nicole, then met at Mark and his 2 daughters, Scotty, and Terry at Mark's house. A lot of traffic for this race. Took a while to find a parking spot. The Target Center was PACKED! I have NEVER seen this many people at one time picking up race numbers. Come to find out later, that there were close to 10,000 people registered for this race.
Event warmup:

None. Tried to scootch up closer to the start line.

Comments:

It took forever to get to the 7:40 pace I wanted to start out with. My first mile was an 8:22. I spent most of the time trying to get around walkers, and leisurely joggers, and a few baby strollers. Why these folks line up at the front of the start line is beyond me. Took close to a mile to gt around other runners, but after that, I started to relax and run at about a 7:25 pace. Ran next to a couple dressed as chickens for a while. At mile 2 things got a little rough, but I tried to keep my pace around 7:25. Had a strong finish.
What would you do differently?:

Eh...take this race less seriously. I tried to run hard just because it was my first ever 5K and I wanted to see what I could do it in. This definitely was not the race to do a time trial in. I guess that's why I stick to chip-timed races like 10Ks, half marathons and marathons.
Post race
Warm down:

Cheered in Cindy. I guess Jason and I missed cheering in Nicole. We couldn't find her amidst the cast of 10,000s :).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Crowded start.

Event comments:

Huge race. I would probably not do it again, unless someone sponsored my entry fee (like this year :))!
