Pre-race routine:

got up @ 6:15 and got the kids up. 13-y-o son was running the 5-K race, the younger two running the kids fun run and then walking the 5K with Joe, April, Max and Patti. Managed to get them fed and hit the road at 7.
Event warmup:

Running to the kids run, as we barely made it in time... Found DK, Max, Patti, Joe and his wife April, Amanda, Scott and his family. Otherwise, just milling around and stanind in the portopotty line. Lost DK, Amanda and Scott while wating to pee. Oh well, son William is still with me. This is a big race with 7-8,000 folks running and walking.

Comments:

William and I crossed the starting mat 4 minutes after gun time and we slowly got started up the first hill. We hit mile one at @ 9:50. He was clearly wishing to go faster....I had to stop and use my asthma inhaler. Then I lost him. Oh well, guess I'll just run my race. Had a nice pace going...relaxed and steady. Somewhere after the 2 mile mark I hear "go Joanne". It was Scott. We chatted a bit then I moved on. Next I came upon DK, we chatted a bit...and then I moved on. This isthe third year I've done this race and it's a lot of fun. Lots of spectators are out cheering, a few houses always have music blasting for us, and there are several dixieland jazz groups playing along the way. It's like a big party. I picked up the pace a bit the last mile, remembering to save something for the finish, which is up a hill.
What would you do differently?:

Bring mittens for my 6-year-old daughter.
Post race
Warm down:

There was a huge bottlenec of folks after the finish line and found Amanda, who just ran her fastest 5 miles ever! We herded along with the masses, getting water, snacks, medals, and of course, the free apple pie!

Found son William near the pies (he then went into our car to eat his -- with no fork. Oh to be a 13 year-old boy!) Scott and DK found us and then we waited for the walkers. Thanks to Joe, April, Max and Patti for leeting Nick and Sam walk with them while William and I ran.

Event comments:

A MassBT tradition. No tailgate party this year, as several of us had to get going. DK did share some yummy cookies, though. Thanks!
