Pre-race routine:

Got to tranistion around 4:45...found a great spot to setup right beside a tree so no one could be directly next to me and it wouldn't crowd me in. Had a great line to the bike exit. Walked around and got familiar with the transition area. Ate a powerbar and some water & gatorade that I got at the expo.
Event warmup:

Very little other than walking to the swim start and waiting in litle for the porta potty.
Swim
  • 24m 8s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 36s / 100 meters
Comments:

The water was to warm for wetsuit in my opinion.
What would you do differently?:

Get closer to the front on the start.
Transition 1
  • 02m 39s
Comments:

My shirt got caught up and had a heck of a time trying to get it straightened out...run from swim exit to tranistion was tough b/c of the pavement. Feet were killing by the time I reached T1.
What would you do differently?:

work on shirt, maybe wear wetsuit if water was colder.
Bike
  • 1h 08m 36s
  • 40 kms
  • 34.98 km/hr
What would you do differently?:

Gotta check the tightness of every bolt on the bike before I start. Reset computer too.
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
What would you do differently?:

Remember to put out power bar!
Run
  • 45m 24s
  • 10 kms
  • 04m 32s  min/km
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around, enjoy cooling fans, drink a lot, eat a little too sit and relax waiting for buddy Chris to finish. Enjoying being done!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor swim start. Poor time in T1.

Event comments:

Far to many people to make this course a fast one. I was lucky enough to be in the 2nd wave of Oly distance so that helped me out a great deal as i didnt have to worry about passing or being passed by to many people.

Course: Start was a little narrow which led to a lot of bunching up a the beginning and again near the first buoy. After that thought it was clear open water. Tough breathing to the right as the sun was shinin bright at that time. found it was easier to breathe towards the wall anyway since that kept me going fairly straight.

Course: Very rough in spots. Computer stopped working after first turn around. Almost wiped out at turnaround #2, guess i took it a little quick but didnt think it was that fast. Aero bars started slipping lower after 3rd turn leading to unconmfortable last leg. First lap was great because there were very few people on the course at that time since i was in the second wave of oly distance. 2nd loop alot more people but still lots of room to pass.

Course: Very flat and hot. No shade. Thanks goodness i was out there early. Would have crapped the bed if i had to be running an hour or two later. Knee started to hurt with about 1/2 mile to go but didnt affect pace too much. Was very tight the rest of the day though, but its fine now.
