Swim
Comments: Water felt really warm compared to what I was expecting. For some reason got nervous before the start. Had to try and calm myself down. Did ok for the first 10 or 15 minutes but then started to get winded. Could not get my breath so started to freak out a little. Slowed down and tried to concentrate on getting from buoy to buoy. Got my composure back and found a rhythm. I was getting too warm with the full suit on. Got to the dock and chose the second ladder since there was a line at the first one. As soon as my right foot hit the sand got a sharp cramp in my calf. Worked that out for a second before climbing the ladder. What would you do differently?: Need to get a sleeveless wetsuit. Need alot more OWS practice in the next couple of months. Would slow down and not work so hard Transition 1
Comments: It was a long run down the dock and across the grass/dirt/sand to get to the transition area. Had a good spot close to the bike exit. Good transition, did not rush but was efficient. What would you do differently?: Sat down to take off wetsuit. Need to practice taking off suit standing up. Bike
Comments: Was very happy to be on the bike after the swim. Initial tailwind turned into a strong crosswind after about 45 minutes. Caught my training partner about an hour in. Was riding comfortably without a hard effort. Crosswind turned into a strong headwind for the majority of the last 30 miles. Kept telling myself to relax and not fight the wind. Kept working the numbers in my head for finishing time and it was going up quickly with the headwind but stayed within myself. Had one bottle of gatorade per hour. One gel per hour. Forgot my cliffshot blocks in the haste to get transition setup. These nutrition facts will become significant later on. Got off the bike and felt pretty decent considering the heat. What would you do differently?: Not forget my cliffshot blocks. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition. Didn't waste any time. Racked bike, took off helmet and shoes. Put on running shoes, grabbed hat, run number belt and headed out. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Run started out ok. Didn't want to push it real hard because it was getting hot so started at a slow pace that I thought I could maintain the whole way. Boy, was I wrong!!! After 4 miles my stomach started to feel like a rock. Tried drinking more water at the aid stations but kept getting worse. Kept running till mile 6 where I started walking the aid stations. Got more and more sick to my stomach, started to feel like I wanted to throw up. By mile 10 there was not much running. Every time I did more than walk I would start to puke. So the plan went walk, run then puke for next three miles. Timed it right so that I didn't puke at the finish line. :) What would you do differently?: This run was all bad. Scrap the nutrition and start a new plan Post race
Warm down: Sit down and drink water so I could avoid the medical tent. What limited your ability to perform faster: My nutrition plan. Two races in a row of being sick. Scrapping my nutrition plan and starting over. Never had an opportunity to run. Legs felt great but couldn't make them move. Disappointing because I trained hard for this race and felt very prepared. Event comments: Nice race location. Will do this one again next year. Last updated: 2007-11-25 12:00 AM

Stayed in Clinton so it was a drive to the race site. Up at 4:00. Had a mixed berry Nutri-grain bar, blueberry muffin and two cups of coffee for breakfast. Drove to the race site and parked on the side of the road so there was a 10 minute walk to the transition area. Set up transition, got timing chip and hit the porta john.
Was running late so only had time for a real quick run. Not enough warm up and felt rushed but not real bad.
