Pre-race routine:

Got up around 5:50 and started some coffee, something new ive started doing ever since Stonebridge. Ive always been afraid it will dehydrate me, but im being sure to drink plenty of water once im done w/ the coffee. Had two pieces of toast, one with jelly, the other w/ honey and a small glass of OJ. Double checked all my gear and headed out the door.
Event warmup:

I had to wait about 35 minutes in traffic just to get into the AAC parking lot. I was meeting Scott and of course he beat me there, so he found a nice "secluded" parking lot and I finally pulled in there about 7:30ish. We hid out in the mini-van for a bit while I tried to convince myself I could get away w/ wearing tri shorts and a tech short sleeved shirt. We headed into the AAC to find the other BTers and hung out there from about 8-8:45. When I got to the fence line I realized there were people actually checking to see if people had bibs!!! Crazy. Good thing I had one :) We came out right at the front of the pack so we just jumped right into the front and watched the elites stand around. Warm up? Maybe jogged for :30 trying to get to the starting line. I had done a little jogging in the parking lot earlier.

Comments:

Cannons went off and we were moving. Had decided pre-race that id be running w/ jeepfleeb so we headed off together and I just waited for him to give me his HR data so I would know if we needed to slow it down or speed it up :) We came to the first mile marker and I looked down to see 6:25. A bit fast but Aaron didnt seem to worried about it. It was cool starting so far towards the front. It seemed like a MUCH smaller race than it really was. I was quickly warming up and was totally happy I made the clothing choices I made. 6:55 was our next mile and was definitly more of my goal pace. I was feeling good and definitly didnt feel like id just run 2 miles in 13:20. When we got to mile three we had dropped back down to 6:35 and I think we both knew that was a little fast. The course leveled out a bit right there at Turtle Creek and we started to find a good steady pace. Mile four was 7:19 and felt a little slow after those previous miles. Everything seemed to be getting a little more crowded too. Mile 5 dropped down to 7:16. Aaron and I had been chatting on and off a bit and it really took my mind off the pace. We were both feeling good and I was feeling confident we could get really close to 1:30. 6 was 7:19. Our last three miles were all within 3 seconds of each other so we were holding a good steady pace. We came to 75 and that was the second aid station I drank at. I let Aaron and some other woman go ahead of me and then BAM. The woman drops her water cup all over my foot. Damn. After hoping it wouldnt rain all week that woman dropped her full cup on my foot. Ha. Other than that incident all my aid stations went really smooth. Mile 7 was 7:11. Felt good to bring it down just a bit. It was right after this marker that I took my first and only gel. Tasted really thick since it was so cold. It was at this point Aaron brought up the tiny out and back section. A few minutes later we could see that it had been moved down the street instead of on a side street. We made the u-turn and then took a right towards the nice 2-3 mile straight towards downtown. Mile 8 was 7:16 and we were both feeling great. It rained for just a few minutes right before 8 but it wasnt enough to bother me or Aaron. I thought I could feel the beginnings of a small blister... I knew it wouldnt be too much of a problem though. Mile 9 was 7:07 and it felt awesome. We were heading straight towards downtown at this point I we were well on our way to a 1:30ish half. Mile 10 was our last mile before we dropped the hammer. 7:12. We hit the ten mile mark and all the sudden started passing people :) We covered mile 11 in 6:46. Im a negative split addict so it felt awesome. I kept checking with Aaron to make sure we were keeping it over 160ish. Mile 12 passed in 6:25! We were flying now. I realized we werent going to break 1:30 but we would be damn close. I could hear fleeber making some random burbs so i was slightly worried he was feeling a little iffy. We slowed just a bit and covered the final 1.1 miles in about 8, probably a little less. Overall, if you graphed our splits it would have looked like an arch. Awesome negative splits. Aaron PRd and our finish line photo was us running w/ or shirts over our heads so you cant see our faces. Classic.
What would you do differently?:

Take another gel. Normally I take two gels during half but I only had one at home. Other than that I would have changed a thing. I was there to help Aaron run that last 5K at a smokin pace and we did.
