Pre-race routine:

Got up around 5:15. Had a PRObar and some Motel8 coffee. I think I had a small piece of some bad ass Whole Foods bread I bought the night before. Watched the weather and decided to wear shorts and a tech shirt. Realized I forgot my race belt so i guess id be wearing pins this time... :)
Event warmup:

Pulled into the parking lot w/ an hr to spare. Sat in the car and listened to some good music and stayed warm. With about thirty minutes to go I changed out of my warm ups and stuffed them in my bag that I was going to have waiting for me at the finish line. I love organized point to point races! On my way over there I realized it was a little colder than expected but not too bad. On the way back to the car I jogged the whole way and knew Id be fine wearing my shorts and tech shirt. With about ten minutes to go I finally got out of the car for the last time and body glided up and was sure to discretly pee btwn cars :D Jogged up to the starting line and walked all the way around to the front and jumped over the corral fence so that i could be as close to Desiree as possible. LMAO. I actually never saw her. I was still starting too far back for my comfort..

Before I start here are my miles:
1.) 6:26
2.) 6:22
3.) 6:06
4.) 6:11
5.) 5:50 (obviously short)
6.) 6:31 (obviously long)
7.) 6:31
8.) 6:11
9.) 6:25
10.) 6:35
11.) 6:29
12.) 6:26
13.1) 7:01

Pushed my way through people for about the first mile. By the time I hit that first mile I wasnt getting passed or passing. Read my split and was exactly where I wanted to be. Felt great. Second mile i started questioning my ability to hold this pace for 13 but was feeling ok. Skipped the first aid station but was thoroughly impressed w/ how well stocked it was. Right after this the downhills begin. While the downhills arent always HUGE they are noticeable. Got down to mile 3 and hit up the first aid station. Right past this aid station there are some significant declines that are awesome for the avg. Mile 4 was 6:11 and I still felt fine and had found someone to run with. When we got to mile 5 my watch read that mile was 5:50. I looked up and said "Holy Fuck"... I asked everyone else around me there splits and found out everyone read fast, so i assumed the mile was short. Despite that I still decided to back off because how short could it be right? The course flattens out a bit here and even has a few uphills.. but almost not noticeable. I took my first gel right at mile 5 fyi :) Mile 6 has a little loop section where we ran through a neighborhood then pass right by the other runners hitting mile 5.5ish. Passed through mile 6 and it read 6:31 and assumed it was a little long after my previous miles had been so much lower. Went through the relay exchange point and realized I was losing my form. Around mile 7 the course really flattens out. This is when I noticed how fatigued I actually was. At this point I just focused on maintaining 6:30ish. When I hit mile 7 I couldnt believe it was still a 6:31. It felt wayyyy slower. It was nice to see I was still moving. This gave me some hope. I knew in just a bit id have a nice downhill then it was the only actual uphill of the course coming up. Mile 8 was 6:11! wow. That was the mile I was running w/ a woman that id been playing cat and mouse w/ the whole time. I took a left at this stop light and started the uphills. :( I was thinking my miles would fade to mid 6:40s. By mile 9 I had almost totally lost proper form but was having NO issues holding my pace. I took my second and last gel around the uphill section. 9 was 6:25. Not bad for climbing :) I knew it was more climbing until mile 10. Once I hit mile 10 I knew it was almost all downhill! Mile 10 was 6:35. My slowest mile all day, but only 10seconds off my previous. I knew when I got to mile 10 I was going to break 1:25 because my watch read 1:03 something and a 6:30 pace (which = 1:25 half) was 1:05 at the 10mile mark. I actually tried to push the pace here and had to back off because I knew I wouldnt be able to hold and possibly blow up around 12.5. Cant say I was dissapointed w/ a 6:29. Mile 12 was 6:26! Ha. My jaw about dropped. I had actually sped up :) At this point I knew I was going to break 1:25 so I started enjoying the moment. Having run this race before I knew this last mile just keeps going... and going.. When I finally saw the finish line I looked down at my watch and I saw I was capable of breaking 1:24!! So I focused on catching a guy a little ways up and trying to beat him. I actually caught him and passed him. Continued w/ that pace to the finish line and looked down at my watch which read 7:01 for the last 1.1 miles.. which translates to a 6:22 pace. That = negatives splits for the last 5K! My watch read 1:23:08. I had PRd by 6+ minutes and beat my goal by almost 2 minutes. When I crossed the line and stopped I realized my legs were shaking. I walked towards the volunteers and they realized I had laced my chip into my laces because I forgot my strap :( :( :( They made me bend down and unstrap my laces. ugh. I stood up and enjoyed the moment :)
What would you do differently?:

Possibly back off a little bit earlier. When I realized my pace kept getting faster so early I should have backed off just a bit.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabben my finisher medal and free h20 and enjoyed the moment. I was shaking a bit and realized i needed to get my clothes that I had dropped off. They were taking finisher photos so I just walked up to one of the open slots since they were all emptly :) and got a photo. Then headed over to get changed. Warm clothes felt so great :) Im so happy I but a beanie in that bag. Once I was changed I realized I had NO appetite so I skipped all the food and watied for friends to finish :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing.

Event comments:

I totally love this race. The course is WAY fast. The aid stations are VERY well manned and have plenty of drinks. They even had vaseline?! The post race activities are great w/ plenty of food and drinks. I also noticed a kids race which is cool for families. If you've never run the 3M half... DO IT.

Performance: Good
Course: FAST. Hands down the fastest course Ive ever run. Last year was my first year to run this course and I threw down a 1:29:43 w/o proper training. The first 1-2 mile fluctuate a little then around mile 3 start some goood downhills. This downhill trend continues all the way till you reach MOPAC then you do a small loop type section then actually head uphill for about a mile through the relay exchange point. You then take a right to what I feel is the most difficult part of the course. Its not exactly uphill but its very flat so it almost feels up hill. Towards the end of this stretch there is another goood downhill to make up for that section just before. You then take a left to what i like to call the only uphill of the course. Here there is about 1-2 miles of up hills. Once you make it through that section it is ALL downhill starting with mile 10-12. There are some mild fluctuations but you get the idea. Mile 12-13 takes FOREVER and is relatively flat. The very scenic UT campus makes up for the pain youll be experiencing at this point. The aid stations are top notch and VERY well stocked w/ H20 and gatorade.
