Run
Comments: Went out around an 8min mile. Hung out w/ the 3:20 pace group and they were REALLY getting on my nerves. I like peace and quite when I run... and they werent quite. First few miles were up hill. Great fan support. Aid stations were really well stocked and volunteered :) Around the 5K we were heading back downhill towards downtown. Took a pee break behind a dumpster around the 5K. Came back out and people were like "where the hell did you come from?" ... was kinda funny. Had to pass that unbelievable obnoxious 3:20 pace group again and headed to downtown. Got to downtown and people were EVERYWHERE. Was AWESOME! Almost had the feeling of an Ironman. Headed out towards Mt bonnell on a fairly flat section. The entertainment was really well organized. Lots of music and what not. Annoying to me but im sure others enjoyed it :) Another good climb then we passed the hula hut. Nice uphill section to mile 10 where the course split. Finally got some room to run :) Tried to open it up a bit here. Was probably pushing 7:00-7:10/m till the finish. There was one last GOOD uphill around 11. Awesome downhill right before it. Just continually passed people starting at mile 11. Passed the capitol and headed down congress to the finish chute. Some kid went flying pass me sprinting w/ everything he had. Took everything I HAD not to show him how I earned my MDOT. I let him go :) Crossed the line, grabbed my finisher medal and shirt. Handed them to John, took a gel, and got ready for my 5 mile Cool down :) What would you do differently?: Maybe start out a bit harder, but being the first 18 miler since IMLP I was a bit tentative... Post race
Warm down: After handing my things to John I headed out for my 4 mile CD. I dont carry a Garmin or anything so I was just going on perceived pace. Decided to do 17 minutes out and then 17 min back. Headed down Congress to Town Lake and ran into Scott :) :) He left his friend and he joined me on the CD. We headed down Chavez and got back on the run course. Crazy thing was people were still on the course. They were all walkers. I guess this was around mile 7. We went all the way down to mile 8ish? then turned onto the dirt path that runs next to town lake. Was feeling awesome and still holding good form!! :) Was way excited about that. First time ive run that far and held good form. I started to push the pace to probably 7:30ish. Scott (having recently had knee surgery) told me to either back off or leave him. lol. I stuck with him and we cruised back around 8:20s. Total run time was around 2:15. I had NEVER felt better running 18 miles. As I told Scott... I EASILY could have run a 3:30 mary today, but thats to be expected during IM training. What limited your ability to perform faster: The fact I was doing a 4 mile run post race. Event comments: Fantastic race. Would love to actually race this course sometime. The aid stations were awesome with tons of help. Course is tough but it made it fun and kept things interesting. Awesome finisher medals and shirts. Last updated: 2007-12-01 12:00 AM

Broke a coffee pot in the hotel room. Pouted because I didnt get to have hotel coffee. Ate a PROBar :) Odd thing was I didnt BOOM BOOM.
Did a 7:20 warm up. Ran across Congress bridge a few times. Twice to be exact. Probably a .7 mile WU jog. Plan was to do a mile but that did fine. Found my friend that had picked up my packet for me, put my bib and chip on and lined up. Lined up in a good spot. Maybe a bit too far back, but of course that was probably a good thing cause it kept me from going out too hard in a "training" run....
