Pre-race routine:

Race didn't start until the afternoon. Hung out with Kelly and the kids and tried not to eat bad food. Was given 2 shirts by accident at check-in. Realized I needed all the good karma I could get (and of course it was the right thing to do) and returned the extra shirt.
Event warmup:

Had a touigh time figuring out what layers to wear and which ones to shed. Despite being quite well insulated I'm something of a freeze baby. Kelly talked me into ditching the Northface vest and I am very happy she did. Shared a goodbye kiss with her at the car because neither of us really wanted to run together. Did a 10 mninute or so warm-up and hit the starting line ready to go.

Comments:

I came into this race expecting to knock a pretty good chunk out of last years time. I was hoping to hit around 41 minutes. First mile was pretty tough and I wasn't sure I had it in me today. Refused to look at Garmin until I saw the first mile marker. It took forever to get to the marker so I assumed I was going below hoped for speed. Started to accept maybe 41 minutes wasn't going to happen. Surprisingly to me I saw I was right at 8 minutes when I hit the first mile. As I got to miles 2 and 3 I had to keep making myself promises to keep moving. This was a very tough pace for me and I doubt I could have pushed it any further. Mile 3 was very difficult and I told myself I could slow down once I hit mile 4. At 4 I thought I was all done. Noticed I was right at 8 minute miles still and figured I would push it a little further. Once I thought I just couldn't go any further I heard the crowds and saw the finish line. Momentum mostly brought me in. Looked for Kelly quick and saw she wasn't done yet. Waited for her near the finish. Celebrated 2 brand new PR'for her and I and got some food. I am completely stoked about this run. Knocked 6:41 off of last years time. I actually finished top 50%. This is not something I expected I would ever be able to do. A very supportive family has really helped me reach these goals.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Just waited a few minutes for Kelly and did some light stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My weight. As of today I am still in the 230 pound range. It is coming down slowly, very slowly. I would really like to see what I could do in the 190's.

Event comments:

Once again all I can say is I am very happy with the results. I can't wait for tri season to get rolling again.
