Run
Comments: very good run. Ran faster than my training pace for this distance (26.2 miles at same total time as 24 miles in training). Perfect pre-race preparations. Some headwind slowed me down, also legs/feet got sore and stiff from so much running on pavement. But great. I'm very proud to have done it. Lovely medal and race goodies! What would you do differently?: Can't think of anything, except be 20 pounds lighter. Post race
Warm down: walked several blocks. Had to drive my car back from Sacramento; that was very painful once lactic acid and cramping set in. What limited your ability to perform faster: see above. I can't really run fast on long distance races anymore since I can't bend my foot. But I'm out there and doing fine. Event comments: This was a big success. This is my first marathon in 20 years, and I've gone through a lot to get to it. I got to the starting line well prepared and healthy. I met my goal of finishing, wasn't even last overall or in my age group! I have clearly overcome most of the limitations of the disastrous failed foot surgery and botched treatment of my torn PT tendon in 2001, with my subsequent severe foot arthritis and RSD. I am proud of myself for 6 years of hard work in rehabilitation, and I'm grateful for the support of my family. Last updated: 2007-12-03 12:00 AM

oatmeal and coffee for breakfast (4:30 AM) Bus to start at 5:15 AM, arrived about 5:45. lots of portapotties, had no trouble with lines. Not too cold, left sweats in truck. Wore longsleeve tech shirt, t-shirt over, plastic bag windbreaker, gloves. Tossed plastic bag fairly soon, took off extra t-shirt at about 7 miles, kept gloves on whole race.
