Overall Rank = 173/431
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 31/51
Pre-race routine:

wake up, load van, chat with Chris, brush teeth/rince hair, drive to venue without getting coffee
Event warmup:

running around being crazily nervous!
Swim
  • 42m 39s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

started out walking cuz way shallow(yes, even for me). started swimming but kinda congested so tuff for me to get into a rythym at all. once i did i almost swam into the side of a canoe (thought we spose to go around the buouy to the left.......) hit stride then but when i looked up after awhile i had drifted big time to my right and was almost smack dab in the middle of the rectangle route!!! doubled back and got back on course and finished fine.
What would you do differently?:

um, kinda obvious, but better sighting would prolly help!
Transition 1
  • 02m 49s
Comments:

suit is a bit long on me legs (um for those that done realize it, im kinda short {so they say anyway}) and in the process of getting out of wetsuit my left calf caught a mild cramp. zeeks!!
What would you do differently?:

not get a cramp for starters......
Bike
  • 2h 49m 4s
  • 56.7 miles
  • 20.12 mile/hr
Comments:

enjoyed this ride. some roads were a little bumpity, but overall i thought they were pretty good.
What would you do differently?:

not think i had a flat and stop and check it out.
Transition 2
  • 02m 33s
Comments:

was focusing on what i had to do in transition to be outta there quick and ran right past my spot!! duh, idiota!!
What would you do differently?:

not be some a dumb donkey and look for my spot!!! geesh..........
Run
  • 2h 00m 14s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

caught some cramps in me hammies after the big hill. slowed pace down until those went bye bye then started out on the juju legs again (at this point they were feeling decent). after about 1.5 miles of that my hip started to bother me again and after a bit was getting to be quite ouchie. started the ritual of run at a moderate pace until pain, then slowed down some for a bit, then walked for a bit, then would just repeat the process. pain never really did go away. this was quite the bummer for me cuz i feel that i am a strong runner and that is where i could make up ground, so kind of a tuff pill to swallow. was able to have something of a kick at the end but even that hurt. the paths being so uneven and so different also did not help matters any either.
What would you do differently?:

um............how about a hip replacement to begin with?????
Post race
Warm down:

warm down was actually T3 for the day as i had to get something in mah belly (GET IN MAH BELLY!!) and then over to transition to get the gear and then load said gear into the van and high tail it to brookfield for our baby shower.......

T3 - aprx 20+ minutes as i couldnt find my wallet (ended up being in my pocket of the shorts i had on) nor my phone (ended up being in my shoes that i was going to put on.....dumb donkey!!!)

drive home - stopped at a gas station to get some warm coke as they were out at the food tent. also got choco milk too. drive ended up taking just about 1:45 as i pulled into the parking lot at 3:27. good thing i gots there early as they were done and ready to load up vehicles!!! (boy we gots lots of stuff........where we gonna put it all????)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

in looking at this race it was my plan to use high cliff as a prep anyway and figure some nutrition stuff out. i had a "stated" goal of 5:40 and i beat that despite my hip which is a good thing!!! i normally like to pinpoint some negs and some positive from each event but after looking at the results the only negative i would have is my hip situation. positives include the pace for the swim, the ride on the bike and even finishing despite the hip!!! the volunteers were tremendous out there and i tried to make it a point of thanking them as i past them each time......hopefully i was able to get most of them!!

i got out exactly what i wanted to for this race. it was my first half and i am actually quite stoked about the results!!!

Event comments:

loved it out there today (6-22-08). the volunteers did an EEEEEEEAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWesome job!!!! great learning experience for this donkey!!!
