Pre-race routine:

Just like Philly '05, oatmeal and banana!! Water...
Event warmup:

Waited in line for potty break and then walked to start line. Light stretching and talking to nice ladies in my pace group.

Comments:

Not bad for running around the streets of Rome for the bulk of my summer training! Pulled away from my pace group but that made the last few hills difficult. Support group would have kept me on track for that last mile, but still pretty happy with the results. Well fed and watered.
What would you do differently?:

Worked more intervals into my training sessions. I focused a lot on hills for speed/strength sessions because I was in a hilly region. It worked well to make my legs strong but a few more faster runs would have helped in the end.
Post race
Event comments:

Needed a better post-race transportation plan. The Metro stations near the finish line are PACKED and the last thing my muscles needed was to stand in place for an hour! That hurt worse than anything else. Plus, hundreds of post-race runners did not smell like roses. It would have been worth it to walk an extra mile or two back to the Pentagon and skip the Rosslyn station. But overall, GREAT race and experience! Very scenic, lots of volunteers, and tons of crowd support. Even a few supporters on the lonely stretch around miles 17-19, which was fantastic.

Performance: Good
Course: A few hills early on and of course the last hill before the monument. 14th Street bridge is a nagging hill that you just have to be ready for. Running the Army 10 miler three weeks prior helped on that mental preparation TREMENDOUSLY (especially since at that race it was the hellacious, waterless, full exposure last two miles).
