Run
Comments: I felt great from the start until about mile 8. Mile 8-10 was ok, but 10-12 was pretty painful. 12-13.1 was purely adrenaline fueled. What would you do differently?: Until 9 weeks before the race (when I decided to do it) I had never run more than 4 miles. I would have benefitted from an extra month or two of training. My longest runs were 10 miles, and if I had more time I would have done a few 12 mile runs, maybe even a 13 or 14. During the race itself, I consumed only as many calories as were in the few gulps of Ultima that I had along the way. With as long as I was taking to finish the race, I should have had a gel or something. Post race
Warm down: Waddled around until I found my entourage. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training and relative newness to the sport. Event comments: I can't really rate the race because it's my first running race. I had a lot of fun though, and can't wait to do better next year!! Last updated: 2007-12-12 12:00 AM

I underestimated the amount of time it would take to get ready and drive there. I wish I could blame it on my sister, friend, and husband who were all hung over, but they were actually ready before me. I guess I can blame the fact that I only really got 4 continuous hours of sleep on their midnight pizza binge and 4am laughing fit.
I had some coffee before we left, and then scarfed down a couple clif bars in the car and washed them down with a little bit of gatorade.
I arrived at the starting area about 15 minutes before race time and got in the potty line. When the race started, I was just exiting the restroom, so my warmup was to jog from there back to the starting area.
