Swim
What would you do differently?: The last time I went swimming was in July when I was camping at the Supai Indian Reservation. A little build up would have been nice instead of hitting this stuff cold turkey. Otherwise I loved my swim time and my state of mind upon completion. Transition 1
Comments: The transition was a bit different from last year. My swim/transition time was a bit slower than last year. But last year I did train for the swim. At least this year when I exited I was ready for the coldness and wetness - a little bit more time used getting dressed for that reason. Rolled socks are the only way to go! What would you do differently?: Let out a hoot or holler to show my enthusiasm. Maybe knock Brigham’s bike over before he has a chance to notice - ha ha. Bike
Comments: I thought I had my gears all worked out but my 2nd top gear kept skipping and so I'd have to keep my thumb on my gear selector for stretches at a time. Not a big deal, just a small distraction for about an 1/8 of the course. What would you do differently?: Are tire rubs legal? Nothing, in the future some South Mountain excursions would help with my ability to battle out the hills and the cross winds. Transition 2
Comments: Oh yea, less than 1 minute. Ha ha, I was flying through the transition. My heart was racing, adrenlaine rushing, and my lungs collapsing. What would you do differently?: Not be so surprised that I was done in transition. Run
Comments: I almost got to the first bridge/aid station and my legs were done. Had to walk a bit. This continued for the first 1/2 mile. Finally I picked a pace that was working for me and avoided the walk/run cycle and just kept a slow and steady jog going. What would you do differently?: I was proud of my effort but I needed more running miles in preparation of this run. My run last year was horrible and I was slower than last year. I need to make sure that the next time I'm a little more seasoned in the running department as this is the area I could make my biggest improvement in this race. Post race
Warm down: Came to a complete stop and accepted all fluids and Oreos offered. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not properly training (or training at all). Event comments: Had a great time. I can't take a race too seriously when I haven't done my part to get in shape and in a position to perform at my "A" game level. For this reason the pressure was off and I really had a great time. Except for the run I really felt that the rest of the race was done near my potential level. Last updated: 2007-12-13 12:00 AM

Picked up Brigham and his gear and headed out to Anthem. Arrived 2 hours early to get checked in and setup. Not as cold as last year but wet. Did some stretches to stay occupied. Had been really sick earlier in the week climaxing just 2 days earlier when I had to call in sick to work. The adrenaline is making me feel awesome.
Hanging out talking with Brigham and his family.
