Swim
Comments: The boat ride to Alcatraz took approximately 15 minutes. Once we got into position, the race director said a really nice prayer, introduced the professionals, then stared the 1 minute countdown. The horn blew and the pros were off. About 15 seconds after the pros jumped off the side of the boat, it was our turn. The boat had three doors from which to jump and the only comparison I can make to how 2000 people empty a boat in less than 7 minutes is the paratrooper analogy. Same concept ...All you hear Go Go Go Go Go ...shuffle...Go Go Go ... one after another into the 56 degree bay water. It was an amazing feeling and I am so happy that I prepared in advance of this swim by attending a clinic which allowed us to swim the exact course prior to race day. The water was not too choppy to begin with, but as boats circled and as we got closer to shore the waves picked up. I was happy that I only swallowed a few mouthfuls of bay water. It was a rough start and it took my body about 10 minutes to really get warmed up. It was a mad house of a start. I got hit in the face a few times and had people trying to swim over me and at times grab my ankles. I swam hard and felt I hit my LT during the swim ... I came out of the water with a stitch in my side as we began the mile run to T1. What would you do differently?: Add extra yards to my swim workout! Transition 1
What would you do differently?: Remember where I put my bike! Bike
Comments: I had a hard time of the bike. My legs didn't feel like they wanted to go ...lots of burning. Its strange because I have been doing hilly training rides, but maybe just had an off day...As I stated above, I felt fatigued coming out of the water after swimming so hard. Transition 2
Run
Comments: My legs cramped up again, although I kept them freezing up totally. I believe this has to do with my nutrition which isn't dialed in yet. Post race
Warm down: stretched and walked around the expo. What limited your ability to perform faster: didn't stick to my training plan because of previous injury; nutrition; and skipping out on strength training. Event comments: Gender 561-1499 Last updated: 2007-12-17 12:00 AM
