Age Group Rank = 40/47
Pre-race routine:

Got there too late, about 30 minutes before, didn't really relax much. Was uneasy about goggles.
Event warmup:

Just did a quick 1/8 mile jog
Swim
  • 16m 18s
  • 656 yards
  • 02m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

I can honestly say I lost at least 4-5 minutes on the swim. Need to focus with dirty water swimming.
What would you do differently?:

Not swim in the front, if people are in wetsuits, they will go much faster. Focus on facing my own race and settling into a rhythm, going out too fast is a recipe for disaster. If you swallow water, don't panic, ease into breast stroke and relax
Transition 1
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

Had to sit down on pavement, in retrospect, transition was faster than most. The water bottle worked out well.
What would you do differently?:

Glue step into place, have on step for each biking and running shoes.
Bike
  • 34m 53s
  • 11.2 miles
  • 19.26 mile/hr
Comments:

2 minutes faster gets me into top 15 out of 47. This is achievable, because I was so drained coming out of the emotionally and physically from the panick. Could have pushed a little harder as heart rate on the bike was 155 - 163 for most of the race.
What would you do differently?:

Relax, Relax and have fun
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

Need to glue in step into shoe, had to take additional 15-20 seconds to adjust that.
Run
  • 27m 57s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 01s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

By this point was emotionally fried, convinced that I was just wasting time by running.
Post race
Warm down:

didn't do one, not too sore, about an hour after the race honestly felt I could repeat the entire race again and do it faster.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Stampede out of the swim area, almost drowned went into frenzy panick, heart rate maxed out. Completely destoyed my mental focus. Learned a lot about this one. Never take start for granted, relax at first.

Event comments:

I worked with a swim coach over the winter and swam a ton. The murky lake water and stampede of people behind really freaked me out. I swallowed water twice in a row and got swam over a few times. Needed to tread for a few minutes to revive. Very dissapointing start but was able to put together decent time despite.

Overall: 252/323
Performance: Bad
I swalloed water twice in a row and believed I was going to drown. Then felt claustraphopic with all of the wetsuit people pushing me below the water. Very terrifying. Took about 3 minutes of doggy paddle just to get my bearings then had to deal with negative self talk of ruining my race before it started.
Suit: No Suit
Course: Was longer than I expected, was not prepared to be swimming in front of the pack.

Felt strong on the bike, the hills were a little challenging as had not prepared for them. Only past a few times, need to relax more and focus on breathing.

Had to stop and walk due to not taking a dump earlier. Need to drink coffee, eat more fiber and get up earlier to fix this problem. Had to draw back on the run about 1-2 minutes worth at least because of this. Have more faith in ability and focus on pacing, need to relax more and not focus on others as much.
